Apex Legends is about to celebrate its fifth anniversary with the launch of Season 20. In honor of such an occasion, the devs have implemented a number of changes that pay homage to earlier seasons. Apex Legends Season 20: Ranked Changes
In Apex Legends Season 20, the Ranked mode is effectively returning to the way it was before Season 13. Here are the exact details:
- LP is now RP, with bonuses for kills, match placement, and outperforming higher-ranked squads. Placement is much less significant now.
- All players’ Ranked progress will be set to 1RP and Provisional matches will be disabled.
- Matchmaking will be based on your RP.
- Ranked Splits are back.
- Promotion Trials have been removed.
- Minimum level for Ranked has been lowered to Level 20.
These changes will probably be welcomed with open arms by the community, who have widely-disapproved of some of the more recent systems Respawn have tried for their ranked mode. Lowering the significance of placement should reduce the amount of ratting in each match, and it should encourage more aggressive playstyles.
It isn't all good; the minimum level for Ranked being lowered to 20 makes us slightly worried about smurfs and cheaters, but we won't be too negative until we've actually played the new system. What do you think of these Ranked changes? Is this what you wanted to see?
