Honkai Star Rail is kicking off it's 1-year-anniversary with a whole new region to explore and new story quests. But fans have reason to be worried about the upcoming update.
HoYoverse is not afraid to go dark with their stories. Genshin Impact has become more and more sinister, and Honkai Impact 3rd went from a cute gacha game to one with a sinister story. Honkai Star Rail looks like it will follow in those footsteps.
Recently, the Honkai Star Rail Penacony live stream took place in which multiple devs were interviewed and one of them has players worried about the Penacony story, due to connected history with Honkai Impact 3rd. One thing we can tell you: you should have some tissues ready.
Honkai Star Rail Fans Have Foreboding Feeling After Live Stream
HoYoverse is not shy when it comes to making its players cry. There have been multiple instances during Honkai Impact 3rd that left players in tears, and a huge chunk of the community has come to believe that something similar is going to happen in Penacony.
Duing the Honkai Star Rail Version 2.0 Special Program, one of the narrative designers, Shaoji, was introduced to talk about the upcoming Trailblaze missions. Right away alarm bells went off in the Honkai fandom though, because Shaoji is infamous within the community.

He was one of the main writers in the Elysium Everlasting arc in Honkai Impact 3rd, which notably killed off multiple characters. This left many players pretty traumatized, and seeing him in the Honkai Star Rail live stream had players worried right away.
Shaoji also coined the meme "it's a positive and wholesome story" when talking about Honkai Impact 3rd, right before killing off multiple fan-favourite characters. With him making similar statements in the Star Rail live stream, players are suspicious and bracing for heartbreak this time around.
Penacony is going to be playable in Version 2.0 which is going to be released on February 6, 2024. Get your tissues ready because you might be in for a wild ride in the upcoming Trailblaze mission.
