The 2022 LCK Lock In Finals just took place the other night. What have we learned from the tournament, and what can we expect from the LCS this year?
The 2022 LCS Lock In has come to an exciting end. Who managed to take the crown and which teams have disappointed us throughout the tournament? Let’s recap the last few days of Lock In and what we predict could happen throughout the 2022 LCS season.
Team Liquid And Evil Genius To The Finals
Team Liquid took on Dignitas, who surprised everyone the week prior when they beat the reigning LCS champions 100 Thieves. Would they manage another surprise victory? Hardly.
Top laner Bwipo, who sat out in the quarter-finals to let Hans Sama and CoreJJ play, led Team Liquid to victory and let them roll into the 2022 LCS Lock In Final. It was Bwipo’s stellar top lane presence that gave TL the confidence to move forward, even with Dignitas’ jungler River playing extremely well.
The second match of the weekend was between Evil Genius and Cloud9. EG has looked solid throughout the tournament, with Danny in the bot lane and Impact in the top lane.
EG took the first two games and with their back against the wall, Cloud9 began to fight back. But as most say ‘it’s just too little too late’ and even though C9 got an advantage in the top lane, they didn’t manage to close out the game, losing to EG 0-3.
The Finals: TL vs. EG
The finals were a roller coaster of emotions for both EG and TL fans. While Evil Genius managed to gain advantages early, the first game even looking to be won with ease, small mistakes cost them each time.
In game 1, it was a teamfight gone wrong. Not even Impact’s fed Gwen could bring back the team after Bjergsen scored a Quadrakill on Sylas. Team Liquid caught their footing and closed out the game, earning a 1-0 lead in the best of five series.
Hans Sama was a beast in game 2 of the series, going deathless on Aphelios. Danny on Varus had no chance against the former Rogue bot laner and EG ended up falling to Team Liquid, moving on to what could be the final match of the 2022 LCS Lock In.
EG started off well in the third match, taking a massive lead. Around twenty minutes into the game though, EG faltered, giving Hans Sama and Bwipo the opportunity they’ve been waiting for. Bwipo jumped in as Volibear, blocking EG from getting close to Hans Sama who managed to get multiple kills in, shifting the pressure in his favor and giving TL the lead they needed to win the series and LCS Lock In.
What To Expect From The LCS In 2022
The LCS Lock In tournament has shown that Evil Genius is a team that is not to be messed with. They were the strongest team throughout the tournament and ended up losing due to a few small mistakes.
As expected, CLG and Golden Guardians were at the bottom of the barrel, while TSM struggled to find their footing, ending up in last palace. Will the team be able to find themselves with the departure of Parth? Who knows how TSM will handle themselves in 2022.
Team Liquid and Cloud9 will likely be top contenders throughout the 2022 LCS season with two strong lineups. A few fixed mistakes and they’ll be high class teams. The LCS will be an exciting region to watch this year, and we’re just excited to have the season finally kick off!
