House of the Dragon isn't the only Game of Thrones spinoff that was in production. It appears that there were several others planned, but the one centered around the popular character Jon Snow has been put on ice.
Kit Harington, actor behind the popular Game of Thrones character, Jon Snow, recently sat down with Screenrant, where he revealed that the Jon Snow spinoff will not be happening. When the original run of Game of Thrones was coming to an end, fans and show runners alike toyed with the idea of a continuation with Jon Snow as the main protagonist.
It seems that the sequel spinoff has been shelved, though, with Kit Harington confirming this in the interview himself.
Game of Thrones: Jon Snow Sequel Has Been Put On Ice
It seems that HBO was hoping to continue to milk the Game of Thrones universe for all it was worth after the main series concluded. A Jon Snow spinoff had already started development according to Harington, who explained that they were just looking for the right story to tell.
Unfortunately, it seems that the show runners and writers weren't able to find the right angle to take the story on, meaning it never got further than the early planning stage.
Currently, it's off the table, because we all couldn't find the right story to tell that we were all excited about enough. So, we decided to lay down tools with it for the time being. There may be a time in the future where we return to it, but at the moment, no. It's firmly on the shelf.
One of the biggest issues with the spinoff was the lack of source material. With the A Song of Ice and Fire book series still uncompleted — George R.R. Martin is too busy writing the lore of the Elden Ring DLC I guess — there is not much for show runners to go on.
Given the mixed reception to the final season of Game of Thrones, the showrunners would have to meticulously craft the story and characters for any spinoff to succeed. However, viewers can still look forward to enjoying House of the Dragon, with season 2 on the horizon. Additionally, other shows, such as the prequel based on George R.R. Martin's Dunk and Egg novellas, have recently cast their lead actors, providing more content for fans to anticipate.
So there sure is no shortage of Game of Thrones content .
