House of the Dragon Season 2 is going to debut June 16, but before the second season has even been able to wow viewers, HBO already confirmed that this Game of Thrones spinoff prequel will be renewed for a third season – unlike the Jon Snow spinoff. But, is anyone surprised?

House of the Dragon has become one of the most popular shows on streaming services, with fans making sure to renew their – now more expensive – HBO subscriptions. So for those who have picked up a subscription, there is some good news.

House of the Dragon Renewed For Season 3

HBO announced the renewal of House of the Dragon for a third season. Everyone loved that.

In their press release, they wrote that "[HBO] could not be more thrilled to continue the story of House Targaryen and watch this team burn bright again for season three."

The second season is going to start soon, with fans excited to see how the story will continue. Creator of A Song of Ice and Fire, Gerge R.R. Martin is also an executive producer on the series and probably has a hand in directing where the story goes, so we hope that House of the Dragon will continue with its highs and not plunge into the lows that were some of the later seasons of Game of Thrones.

George [R.R. Martin], Ryan [Condal], and the rest of our incredible executive producers, cast, and crew, have reached new heights with the phenomenal second season of House of the Dragon. We are in awe of the dragon-sized effort the entire team has put into the creation of a spectacular season two, with a scope and scale that is only rivaled by its heart.

There is no information yet on the third season – obviously the second hasn't even come out yet – but we can imagine it's going to be a big one! There is still so much to explore, so it'll be interesting to see where the showrunners take the Targaryens.
