Cliue might be getting some new television and movie attention thanks to a deal between Hasbro and Sony.
In 1985 a Clue movie was released, and it seems that almost 40-years later another set of television and film projects surrounding the iconic board game could be in the works.
After the success of other toy and game adaptations like Barbie or even the upcoming Among Us television series, it comes as no surprise that more of these types of projects are being green lit. Who else is excited for the Monopoly film? But today we're going to take a look at another board game — Clue.
Clue Could Turn Into Major Franchise
Clue, the mystery board game in which players must figure out who the killer is, could become the next big franchise in television and film. It was revealed by TheWrap that Sony has acquired the rights to Clue, which could mean that we are going to be getting a series or even movie in the universe.
The premise of the game is amazing for a series or a film, and we could definitely see some sort of murder-comedy being made out of the game, with some pretty interesting characters featured in the board game already. Bringing those to life on the screen could be great.
Sony acquiring the rights to Clue is part of Hasbro's current entertainment strategy to "elevate story telling of Hasbro's most iconic brands".
Sony is the perfect partner to adapt a property as culturally impactful and mystery-defining as Clue. Nicole Brown, Katherine Pope and their teams are tremendous creative collaborators and ideal partners to help us figure out after 75 years if it was Colonel Mustard in the conservatory with the candlestick.
Whether Clue is going to be turned into a series or a movie has not been revealed yet, but whatever route is taken, this could be another huge project. But will it be able to surpass the hype that Barbie brought?
