The Peaky Blinders movie is picking up steam and fans are delighted to hear that the one and only Cillian Murphy returns to reprise his role as Tommy Shelby.
The fact that we won't get a seventh season of Peaky Blinders was a hard hit, but it was helpful to know that the Peaky Blinders universe lives on with spin-offs and movies. We finally got some news on the movie and the anticipation skyrocketed!
According to BirminghamWorld, none other than Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight has confirmed what many fans have been hoping for: Tommy Shelby will be back!
Cillian Murphy Reprises His Role As Tommy Shelby In Peaky Blinders Movie
Cillian Murphy just keeps winning: not only has Oppenheimer basically won every award under the sun, Murphy has also single-handedly shaped a whole generation of men – in terms of hairstyles, at least. Do you remember the time when everyone had the same haircut and tried to pull off the Tommy Shelby, sometimes even trying out the 1920s fashion? Because I sure do. No judgement there, though – Cillian Murphy did kind of set a new beauty standard there.
Cillian Murphy will try once again to re-shape the ideal of sophisticated men, even if it's not his intention. As Steven Knight confirmed, the actor will return as Tommy Shelby for the upcoming Peaky Blinders movie. Filming is supposed to start in September 2024, so with any luck, 2025 will be the year the iconic Shelby returns.
It remains to be seen in which format the movie will come out – is it going to be a full blockbuster in theaters? Is it coming to BBC first (most likely, to be honest) and then go to Netflix later, just like the show did? It's also possible it's going to be a Netflix exclusive movie, even if chances for that are slim.
It's also not set in stone if Tommy Shelby is going to be the main character in the upcoming movie or if Cillian Murphy's appearance will land in the category of classic fan service. We'll make sure to keep you updated on that, though!
