The Rings of Power is a beautiful series set in Middle Earth, and while the first season wasn't the most popular, it did leave its mark. In fact, it has such an impact that the third season has already been greenlit, before the release of season 2.
The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power is here to stay. The second season of the Amazon original series has wrapped up filming already and is slated to release sometime in 2024. Before the second season has even released, though, it seems that the third season is already in the first stages of production.
Showrunners of the series have already signed a new deal with Amazon MGM Studios which is a good sign for the future of the Lord of the Rings series and it's fans.
Lord of the Ring: The Rings of Power Is Planned To Have Multiple Seasons
The fact that the third season is already in the planning stage shouldn't come as much of a surprise. Patrick McKay and JD Payne, the showrunners of The Rings of Power, previously revealed that they had a grand vision of 5-seasons of the series with the finale also already planned out.
Amazon is also confident in the production and where it is heading, which the new deal signifies. Vernon Sanders, head of television, Amazon MGM Studios stated that, "[they] continue to be amazed by the scope and scale of [McKay and Payne's] vision and the enormous global success achieved by The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power in its record-breaking first season".
The first season of The Rings of Power was a huge success, becoming the most watched Amazon original series, as well as ranking within the top 5 of most viewed streaming shows during its initial run each week according to Nielsen.
The second season is going to be released in 2024 (with no official release date yet), but if it can build upon the first season and grow, then it's going to be a big success. The Rings of Power had some of the best scenic shots of any television series, which seriously impressed viewers in 2022.
