The newest Star Wars series, The Acolyte, had people's interest piqued. The show's debut quickly became the best of any series on Disney+ in 2024, with millions of people tuning in to see what this unique new twist on the Star Wars universe was all about.

Thanks to the show taking place way before the movies, the production team had more room to play with, since a lot of the universe hasn't been seen before in movies and films before, giving them a fresh slate to work with. So, how did it work out?

Disney+ The Acolyte Has 4.8 Million Views On Day 1

4.8 million people tuned in to watch the debut of this unique and interesting Star Wars series that kicked off its run with some fun and interesting twists and turns right away (thanks Variety!). The series garnered a lot of positive attention from critics ahead of it's debut which likely also helped with the spike in viewership.

The Acolyte has to perform well for Disney to continue with the Star Wars universe. Some viewers have felt that under Disney, the Star Wars universe has been in decline. Therefore it is extremely important for the Acolyte to do well on the streaming platform for other series to get greenlit in the Star Wars universe.

The Acolyte did have to struggle with review bombers voting the series down even ahead of it's release, with some review bombing the trailer, but looking over the r/StarWars Reddit, it seems that fans are pretty excited for what is to come in the Acolyte, also enjoyed the 2-episide debut on Disney+.

Some fans have even pointed out that they wished the episodes were a bit longer, wanting to see more of the characters in the Acolyte and their interactions with one another. So, even amidst some trying to sabotage the debut, it's looking pretty good for the Acolyte.
