Nintendo Direct Mini Presentation Kind of Disappoints

Yesterday's Nintendo Direct Mini Partner Showcase announced some new games for the Nintendo Switch and DLC for a Zelda game. That would usually be enough to appease your average fan, but not Nintendo fans. Oh, no, sir. Disappointment is the word of the day.

What Did the Nintendo Direct Mini Presentation Actually Present

There were three (and a half) title announcements in the presentation. Rogue Company, which we've known about since last year. WWE 2K Battlegrounds that admittedly looks quite fun and genuinely promising. We must remember that this is a 2K Games release after all, and a WWE release to boot, so even if it does seem alright now, we can always count on the final product been dragged through the mud by the time it gets to the customer. Not even being pessimistic. Just check the last WWE game for all the proof needed.

Finally, we get one (and a half) new Shin Megami Tensei game. The next installment in the series is coming...not that soon. Shin Megami Tensei V is scheduled for release sometime in 2021, which is fine, but not that exciting in July 2020. Sticking to announcing Shin Megami Tensei 2021 releases, a HD remaster of the 2003 PlayStation 2 classic Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne is also coming next year. This time we even get a specific 2021 season when we can expect the game - spring. Now that's exciting.

WWE 2K Battlegrounds at least got a set launch date - September 18. And it's 2020 by the way. Might get confused at this point.

The final piece of content announced is DLC for Cadence of Hyrule: Crypt of the NecroDancer Feat. The Legend of Zelda. Three DLC packs are on their way, but in case you're not in tune yet, two of them don't have a set date of release. The first DLC pack filled with characters is available straight away, while the other two will be added "by the end of October", which is as close as Nintendo get to any specific dates outside of the WWE ring.

Howeverrrrr, if you buy the Cadence of Hyrule Season Pass you'll get all three pack immediately. So that's how you get Nintendo to be more specific. Got it! Finally, a full version of the came containing all the DLC will launch on October 23. It's 2020.

Why Are Nintendo Fans Mad?

Fans are apparently not that impressed with the Nintendo Direct Mini Partner Showcase. The like-to-dislike ratio under the YouTube announcement video is almost 50-50, which isn't great. Whichever social media platform you check, you'll see mixed comments at best and genuine outrage at worst.

Our guess is that people just...expected more. A new generation of consoles is approaching. Sony and Microsoft are doing these grand campaigns and announcements, and Nintendo are making 8-minute long viseos announcing games we already know about that not a lot of people care about. That's not even an oppinion, it's a fact.

Maybe Nintendo will pick up their game as the year goes along, but if vague release dates for remasters of old games and WW-f#$%ing-E is the best they've got, well, disappointment and outrage is what they'd get in response.
