In an extensive live stream, Sony unveiled the PlayStation 5 console, its looks, and some of the titles that are going to come to the next-gen console in the first few months of its existence.

Sony’s PS5 campaign from last night revealed quite a lot and not enough at the same time. The new visuals and some exciting game titles were on display, but nothing concrete was said about the release date or price of the new console. Let’s take a look at what we do know now.

PlayStation 5 comes in two versions

We have wondered about the new look of the Sony console for a long while. Now that we saw it, I must say – it was worth the wait. The PS5 comes with a slick black and white design that oozes coolness. Sony have also thought about comfort as the system can be set up both horizontally and vertically.

In addition to the standard PlayStation 5 model with an Ultra HD Blu-ray drive, there will also be a version without an optical drive, dubbed PS5 Digital Edition. This is not only narrower in size, but would probably also be offered at a lower price. That's the first time Sony decide to offer a version of their console that goes away with the disc drive entirely. The move follows in the footsteps of Microsoft, who launched their disc-less Xbox One S All-Digital Edition last year and signals a pattern that responds to a shift in the way a lot of us consume games now.

Spider-Man: Miles Morales – the PS5 launch title

Spidey fans can rejoice! The PlayStation 5 is launching with a new Spider-Man game starring Miles Morales. The trailer looks promising:

Horizon Forbidden West

Promising doesn’t cut it for Horizon Forbidden West’s announcement trailer though. The highly anticipated sequel to the smash hit Horizon Zero Dawn will give Aloy a lot more challenges to overcome, each one more brutal than the previous.

Gran Turismo 7

Racing game fans also have reason to be happy with Gran Turismo 7. Unlike GT Sport, Gran Turismo 7 is a full-fledged game with an extensive career mode and a number of different vehicle classes. Looks bombastic and should captivate the screen for months.

Resident Evil Village

Resident Evil’s dark brooding atmosphere will be back in 2021 with Resident Evil Village. The trailer is messed up and we hope the game will match that vibe.

Demon’s Souls

Now here’s a treat! The game that set the stage for the entire Dark Souls franchise is going to be remade for the PlayStation 5 by Bluepoint Games and It. Looks. Awesome.

NBA 2K21

2K Games joined the fun with an NBA 2K21 announcement trailer starring New Orleans Pelicans star Zion Williamson. Perfect representation of the power the PS5 is supposed to bring to the console market.

We’re still waiting on the release date of the new console and its pricing. The latter is suspected to be in the $500 region – a $100 dollar jump from the PS4. As for the release date – anywhere between October and December is a possibility.

If you’re asking yourself “wait, what about the specs?”, we already covered that a while back. We’ll be on the lookout for any developments surrounding the PlayStation 5 here on EarlyGame, so you’d better stick around.
