Valorant, still in closed beta, ever so popular. Riot Games shed some light on what’s to come including skins, contracts, a battle pass and more.
With the latest announcement coming from Riot Games we find out more about the Valorant in-game store. That’s only the beginning though as Riot’s plan includes a couple of things:
- Unlock new Agents, weapon skins, player cards, and sprays by completing Agent Contracts
- Unlock weapon skins in the Store by using VALORANT Points
- “Evolve” certain weapon skins and go deeper on a theme by spending Radianite Points
- Earn items in the Battle Pass (available at launch) on the free and paid track

The store
Valorant’s in-game store will feature two types of deals. Featured items and offers. Featured items will rotate on a weekly basis, while offers will only be available for a limited amount of time. The premium currency, Valorant Points, will only be obtainable by spending real money.

Visuals
Skins for melee and weapons can be acquired through the store, contract, or the battle pass. An important note by the revenue lead, Joe “SAGGERNAU7” Lee:
Even with all the different customizations we have ready and planned, we made sure all content—weapon skins especially—are designed not to interfere with gameplay. While the characteristics of a weapon might change when customized by a skin (model, animation, visual effects, audio), these features are not intended to provide positive or negative advantage to a player. If we find any skin does cross this line, know it was accidental and that we will adjust.
A special spot goes to Radianite points which can be used to evolve your skins, granting them different visuals, sounds, animations, finishers, and more.
Radianite points can be earned through the battle pass or bought from the store.
Contracts
Contracts will serve as the in-game quests. Each player will have two slots. One will be specifically reserved for the battle pass, while the other one can be filled by either and onboarding pass or an agent contract. Agent contracts will earn you exclusive rewards for that agent while completing an onboarding pass will grant you two free agents of your choice. The onboarding pass will have 10 tiers for new players.
Agent contracts will also grant you a new agent upon completing all tiers (they’re 10 again). At first glance, the onboarding pass and agent contracts seem like two sides of the same coin. Both unlock agents at the end but.

Battle Pass
As mentioned above the Battle Pass (BP) will fill one of the two contract slots. With so many other titles using a battle pass system nowadays, it’s really no surprise that Riot have also decided to include one in Valorant. Much like Apex Legends and other shooters with a BP, there’ll be a free and premium version. We can only guess that the free one will have fewer rewards. The Battle Pass won’t make it out before the end of the closed beta as it’s set to launch at the same time as Valorant – in the summer.
Do you think Riot are doing it right or is the studio focusing too much on visuals and not enough on gameplay? Stay tuned for more Valorant news.
