Netlix confirmed that Alice in Borderland is gearing up for season 3. We've got everything you need to know about that right here for you, including the possible release date, the returning cast and any other news your heart desires.
After the devastating bloodbath in season 2, Alice in Borderland has been confirmed to get a third season to further explore the teaser in the last season's finale: the Joker. Manga readers already know the card shown at the end is more than a simple ending shot, reminding them that the games were real and that there's way more to the Joker.
Would be way too easy for Arisu and the crew to just live out the rest of their lives in peace back in Toyko, right? Exactly, so get ready for even more trauma in season 3!
Alice in Borderland Season 3 | Possible Release Date
While the pause between the first two seasons has been a whole two years, that long wait was mainly due to the pandemic hitting and delaying several shows (and basically everything else). So here's hoping that season 3 doesn't need as long to come to Netflix.
In fact, it's speculated that Alice in Borderland season 3 could release on Netflix as soon as Spring 2024.
Alice in Borderland Season 3 | Cast
We've had to say goodbye to lots of characters in the last season, some of them were harder to let go than others. Chances are the survivors will somehow find each other in season 3, just like Arisu and Usagi did in the hospital back in Tokyo.
That means Kento Yamazaki and Tao Tsuchiya will reprise their roles. They'll be joined by Nijirô Murakami, Aya Asahina and Ayaka Miyoshi as Chishiya, Kuina and Ann respectively. Niragi and Aguni also somehow made it out of the Borderlands alive, so chances are we'll see Dori Sakurada and Shô Aoyagi back on screen as well, along with Yuri Tsunematsu as Heiya.
And if the last two taught us one thing, it's that there's always a chance of characters we thought dead returning, so be prepared for any surprises, just in case!
Alice in Borderland Season 3 | How Does It Continue?
In the manga, the Joker isn't simply a card laying on a table, but a complete entity in its own right. The Joker is the one to bring Arisu and his friends back to reality and life. Ever heard of Charon in Greek mythology? Yeah, kind of like that. He's neither God nor devil, but an intermediator.
And that's actually how the source material by Haro Aso ends, so Netflix is now on its own with season 3. It remains to be seen if the card is simply a little teaser for the Joker to actually show up on screen in all of his glory or if the Netflix Alice in Borderland goes a whole new route, separate from the manga.
There's always the possibility the Tokyo they woke up in still isn't the real Tokyo, though – they could still be in limbo, with their awakening just being another layer of an intricate illusion and being forced to continue the game.
However, Netflix decides to keep the ball rolling, it probably won't be too long until we know for sure where Arisu and co are headed – we'll keep you updated as soon as there's a release date to report!
