HBO Max made the day of many in early January: Hacks Season 3 will soon hit the streaming service! We've got you covered on the release date, cast and everything else there is to know.
Deborah and Ava are back at it again: Hacks season 3 is just around the corner, scheduled to release in spring 2024. Even though the unlikely duo ended the last season on their separate paths, the show has been renewed shortly after last season's finale.
In Hacks, the legendary Deborah Vance struggles with her aging stand-up comedy act and needs to adapt to the changing audience tastes. Cue: Ava Daniels. Poor lass loves comedy, but is down on her luck and gets canceled as a writer after a controversial tweet.
Together, they re-invent Deborah's act and despite their differences, help each other out in various ways and grow quite the unique bond.
Hacks Season 3: Release Date & Trailer
Hacks Season 3 will release on May 2 on Max, with Deborah and Ava "still standing and better than ever." But take a look yourself:
The third season took quite some time for various reasons: production already started back in late 2022 but had multiple delays due to Jean Smart having to recover from a medical procedure and also, later in 2023, due to the Hollywood strike.
Now, we're back on track again and season 3 is just around the corner!
Hacks Season 3: Returning Cast
It comes as a surprise to no one, but I am still glad to announce that both Jean Smart and Hannah Einbinder return as Deborah and Ava, respectively – Hacks is about them, after all!
Chances are the supporting cast will stay mostly the same as well, including, but not limited to:
- Kaitlin Olson as DJ
- Paul W. Downs as Jimmy
- Carl-Clemons Hopkins as Marcus
- Megan Statler as Kayla
- Lorenza Izzo as Ruby
- Rose Abdoo as Josefina
- Christopher McDonald as Marty
What are they all up to, you ask? That remains to be seen. For the time being, let me catch you up on the season 2 finale to check where they all start out in the third season!
What To Expect From Hacks In Season 3
I'm going to assume you're up-to-date with the second season – if not, kindly click away: Spoiler warning for the season finale!
In the last episode of season 2, viewers were treated to an emotional rollercoaster: Deborah's special is a huge success, leading to a cute shout-out to Ava. In the middle of the celebration, though, Deborah announces to Ava that she's fired, ripping both hers and my heart out.
She does so for kind of a good reason, though: Ava needs to focus on herself and her own work, which she does: back in L.A., the pilot she wrote gets picked up and turned into a series. Still, her mind is elsewhere: the season ends with a shot of her TV. Deborah's show is on.
So, it's pretty save to say Ava's focus isn't entirely "climbing her own mountains" as Deborah wanted for her. But, as the second season's finale actually did a solid job of wrapping up the story, we're probably in for a whole new adventure: the possibilities are literally endless at this point.
Still, one thing is for sure: season 3 will continue to deliver. But alas, now's the time to wait and then find out ourselves where Ava and Deborah end up on May 2.
