Jack Ryan won't get a season 5, as John Krasinski is done with the character. But apparently Amazon isn't done with the franchise just yet, eyeing a possible spin-off series.
Espionage fans all across the globe take notes, because Jack Ryan will not continue with season 5. Instead, we might dive into the franchise from a different perspective, as Amazon appears to be interested in producing a spin-off for Michael Peña's character Domingo Chavez.
Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan follows the titular character as he develops from a “normal” CIA analyst, who was unlucky enough to get caught up in a deadly game of cat and mouse, into a veteran badass agent who saves the world every other day. No more cat and mouse for Jack, though, as actor John Krasinski has officially sent the character into early retirement, crushing hopes for a Jack Ryan season 5.
Jack Ryan Season 5 Was Never Meant To Be
If you're a big Jack Ryan fan and were hoping to enjoy more of the character on Amazon, we're sorry to disappoint you. John Kasisnksi made it pretty clear that the fourth season would be his last. Recasting the character at this point probably wouldn't go down well with fans, so if you want more Jack Ryan, you should probably check out the books by Tom Clancy .
Amazon does have some more plans for the franchise, though. This time they want to explore the adventures of Domingo Chavez, a character played by Michael Peña, who made his debut in the last season of the series. The show will reportedly be named Rainbow Six and follow an elite counterterrorism task force, founded by the character John Clarke and led by Chavez.
Rainbow Six started out as part of the Jack Ryan book series but has since developed into its own story that was even crafted into a successful tactical shooter with Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege .
Newly named the head of an international task force dedicated to combating terrorism, Clark is looking forward to getting his teeth into a new mission, but the opportunities start coming thicker and faster than anyone could have expected: an incident at a Swiss bank, the kidnapping of an international trader in Germany, a terrible raid on an amusement park in Spain.
Looking at this, the spin-off might be a bit more action heavy, but looking at the book's synopsis, that might turn out pretty awesome! Let's just hope the project kicks off without a hitch.
Similar Shows To Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan
If you're big sad about Jack Ryan not getting another season and want to watch some similar shows that have better prospects of being continued, check out one of these.
The Night Agent
The Night Agent on Netflix is a suspenseful conspiracy thriller centered around the low-level FBI agent, Peter Sutherland, working in the White House basement as some kind of emergency hotline for secret agents.
Unexpectedly, he answers an emergency phone call by Rose Larkin, a young cybersecurity entrepreneur and the niece of two Night Action agents, launching him into a dangerous conspiracy that reaches the highest levels of power.
If this “unassuming and ill-equipped agent stumbles upon a big conspiracy” plot sounds familiar to you, then that's probably because it is so similar to the plot of Jack Ryan in the very first season. So yeah, do we have to explain any further why this is a great fit?
Reacher
If you're in it for the action, Reacher is the definitely right show for you! The timing is also perfect, as Amazon will release the second season later this year for you to enjoy, so the show only having one season so far isn't that much of a drawback.
Reacher tells the story of the retired Military Police Officer Jack Reacher, who is arrested for a murder he did not commit. From here on out, he finds himself personally involved in a deadly conspiracy, with nothing but his wits and muscles to rely on.
The first season of Reacher is based on the international bestseller, The Killing Floor by Lee Child, and the second season spells nothing but Bad Luck and Trouble . There's even a lot more book, so even if you run out of episodes, there are more stories you can simply read up on!
