Berserk might finally get a worthy anime adaptation, as a fan studio is currently working on a "proper 2D adaptation" of the popular manga.
Berserk has got to be the best manga to never get a proper anime adaptation of the whole story, living up to the fans' expectations. Now a fan-studio took matters into their own hands, working on what could be a great series, at least according to the short teaser they recently revealed.
If you're unfamiliar with the manga, Berserk is a dark fantasy story created and beautifully illustrated by Kentaro Miura. Renowned for its intricate story and deep characters. Especially the protagonist and professional badass Guts. It tells a complex story that deals with themes like camaraderie, the search for meaning or the struggle against fate.
Berserk Fan-Project Promises Fans A “Proper 2D Animation”
Berserk is one of those franchises adaptations can't seem to wrap their heads around. Sure, the 1997 anime is held in high regards and in my humble opinion, the three movies that released between 2012 and 2013 aren't that bad either.
But for those of you who've read the manga , you know that what they managed to picture on screen isn't even close to the dark fantasy masterpiece that Kentaro Miura crafted and progressed starting in 1990.
There is a reason the manga has inspired others, with the likes of FromSoftware including small easter eggs like the iconic Dragon Slayer great sword in some of their games.
Now, a studio by the name of studio ECLYPSE has taken it upon themselves to create the anime adaptation of Berserk both the manga and fans alike deserve, and they just dropped their first teaser.
The art style looks a little reminiscent of the Castlevania series and to be honest, there couldn't be a better animation or visual style to adapt Berserk.
Many fans were even begging for Adi Shankar (the executive producer for the Netflix Castlevania series) to produce a Berserk adaptation.
Studio ECLYPSE though, appears to be fed up with waiting and has taken matters into their own hands with artists like markReymar, “to create a proper 2D adaptation of the stories that have been neglected of this medium, starting from the beginning.”
Sure it's only a fan-made project, so it's unlikely that it will live up to the same standards as for example a Netflix production, but looking at the janky 2016 CGI adaptation, things can only get better…
