As Young Sheldon gets ready for his last hoorah, The Big Bang Theory is far from putting the universe to rest. According to creator Chuck Lorre, the next spin-off is already in the works.
Young Sheldon ends after seven seasons, leaving The Big Bang Theory's legacy hanging in limbo. But, worry not: the next spin-off is reportedly already being planned, according to Chuck Lorre himself.
The next show was originally planned to release on HBO Max – plans that apparently have been canceled, so The Big Bang Theory, or rather the spin-off, will stay right at home with CBS.
Chuck Lorre's Update On The New Big Bang Theory Spin-Off To Follow Young Sheldon
In a recent interview with TVLine, the co-creator of The Big Bang Theory shared that the new spin-off to take over from Young Sheldon is being planned out at the moment, but also that there's lots of water to flow down the river until its close to release.
It's prenatal. Yeah, you don't talk about the birth until the second trimester, I believe, is the rule. [...] I've got nothing to say about it other than it's something that we are discussing.
While that sounds a little bit like "Don't know, don't ask", there seems to be a birth we are kind of discussing, Mr. Lorre! He's probably right to not tease anything that's not made it through the complete planning process yet, but seeing the success the whole Big Bang Theory universe had, chances are they won't be just turning their backs on it if there are stories left to tell.
The fans already have some ideas what they'd like to see in the next spin-off show.
What Could The Next Spin-Off Be About?
As Chuck Lorre has previously shared, a new spin-off could basically end up in any direction imaginable as the next show would be completely different from The Big Bang Theory and would feature a cast of new characters – still, he didn't rule out cameos from the original cast.
That lead fans to believe the show could focus on the kids from the OG characters, but before we get too much into that idea: the parents, aka the OG characters, would play a way bigger role than a few simple cameos, so a spin-off about a little Hofstadter seems like a stretch at this point.
Keeping the cameo thing in mind, a popular theory is that the spin-off will focus on Stuart and Denise running the comic book store.
Or they could do the most hilarious thing ever and just throw Old Sheldon out there.
Whatever the case, we'll keep you updated as soon as there's news to report!
