Tomb Raider, one of the most iconic gaming franchises ever, is getting an anime adaptation on Netflix. Here's everything we know about the release date, plot, cast and more, including a trailer.
Netflix is riding the adaptation wave lately – we've got Avatar, The Witcher and a whole bunch of video game adaptations coming up, including Devil May Cry and Tomb Raider. Are you ready for anime Lara Croft?
Tomb Raider is one of the most iconic franchises in gaming and the lore is deep – there's not only the games, but also movies, a live-action show coming up on Amazon Prime Video and a whole lot of books and comics. And you know what? Lara Croft deserves that and so much more, so the upcoming anime on Netflix is great news for fans of the franchise! Let's dive into everything you need to know about the upcoming show.
Tomb Raider On Netflix: Release Date Confirmed!
On September 28, Netflix introduced us to their new batch of anime originals the streaming service plans to release. While most of these new shows arrived with a release date, some didn't, and we're still waiting for some of the dates. Lara Croft is gearing up to raid tombs on Netflix soon, though: on October 10, Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft releases on Netflix!
The show will have eight episodes, which follow the events of the Survivor trilogy. The official description reads:
Following the events of the Survivor series, Lara Croft has abandoned her friends to embark on increasingly more perilous solo adventures. But she must return home when a dangerous and powerful Chinese artifact is stolen from Croft Manor by a thief with an uncanny personal connection. Her daring pursuit will take her on an adventure around the world and to the depths of forgotten tombs, where she will be forced to confront her true self, and decide just what kind of hero she wants to become.
The Voice Of Lara Croft, Further Cast & Crew
Regarding the cast, we only have limited information so far. We do know though that the iconic Lara Craft will be portrayed by none other than Hayley Atwell. If that name doesn't ring a bell, that's rather disappointing, as she's not only voicing an action icon, but is one herself! Atwell is probably best known for her portrayal of Agent Carter in the MCU but has since expanded her repertoire, even starring in the newest Mission Impossible movie.
She'll be joined by Allen Maldonado, who voices Zip. If you've played the games, you'll remember Jonah and his original voice actor Earl Baylon will be a part of the Netflix show as well, reprising his role for the anime.
Tasha Huo will serve as showrunner and, hopefully, make up for her rather unfortunate Netflix debut with The Witcher: Blood Origins.
Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft | Reveal Trailer
Luckily, Netflix wasn't so unreasonable as to give us nothing to look forward to and provided us with a little teaser for the Tomb Raider anime.
Granted, it's not the most revealing trailer, but still, it builds enough tension to get us excited about the time the series officially releases later this year. Not only does the animation look clean as hell, but they also tease an underlying drama and supernatural element that makes the show look all the more intriguing.
How are you feeling about the new trend of adapting video games? Are you looking forward to Netflix's continuation of Lara Croft's story?
