Riot Games officially launched Valorant on June 2 and the new title already had a few tournaments. The latest one was organized by Immortals and won by TSM.
After the release of Valorant, we already saw a big tournament celebrating the game’s launch thanks to the Twitch Rivals Valorant Showdown event. It offered $200,000 in prize money and gave teams from each region a taste of competitive Valorant.
Over the course of June 14-15, the North American organization Immortals and the gaming merchandise retailer GameStop made another Valorant event possible. The Immortals First Light tournament featured various teams from North America. Some of them belonged to big established organizations while others were just making their first steps into the esports scene. It was the pros against the amateurs. Here’s the full list of attendees:
- TSM
- Gen.G Esports
- Immortals
- Cloud9
- Code7
- Echo 8
- Mixup
- China Nguyen
Interestingly enough the winners of the aforementioned $200,000 Twitch Rivals NA event, T1 were nowhere to be found. The event kicked off on Sunday and by the end of the first stage all of the amateur teams were eliminated. The only four remaining were Immortals, TSM, Gen.G and Cloud9. TSM and C9 met in the grand finals and the series ended with a definitive victory for TSM on both Ascent and Bind. The third place was decided between the remaining two where Immortals managed to defeat Gen.G and earn the honorable spot.

The event offered $10,000 in prize money which were distributed amongst the top 3. TSM took home, $6,000, C9 - $3,000 and Immortals were left with $1,000. While the prize pool wasn’t all that impressive such early tournaments are useful in promoting the game and its future esports scene. Furthermore, teams are getting some valuable competitive experience when facing off against others on the same level. A few days earlier on June 12, TSM won another Valorant event – The Counter Logic Gaming - Blitz Cup #2. There the North American powerhouse defeated Gen.G in the grand finals. TSM signed mouseSpaz as their Valorant roster and so far the team has been performing well. It consists of:
- Stephen "reltuC" Cutler
- James "hazed" Cobb
- Matthew "Wardell" Yu
- Yassine "Subroza" Taoufik
- Taylor "Drone" Johnson
For the next event, we hope to see T1 go against TSM.
