Valorant is currently in day twenty of its closed beta and Riot’s new shooter is as popular as ever. In a heated discussion on Reddit, a Riot developer revealed that the next patch will include some visual updates. Another employee mentioned that replays won’t be available when the game initially launches.

Riot have done a superb job so far with their marketing team as interest in Valoran remains high. The title is currently more viewed on Twitch than League of Legends and that’s saying something. When it comes to game mechanics and community feedback the developers have been more than responsive. One of the examples is when players thought Raze didn’t really fit the playstyle Valorant was supposed to have, so she received some nerfs.

Visual indicators

Next on the menu of changes might be a better visual indication when inflicting or taking damage. Sometimes it’s really hard to tell when you’re dying as the only way you can tell is by looking at your health all the time. As you can imagine that’s nor possible, nor anyone wants to do it. In a Reddit discussion on the topic a Riot employee joined in and shared some interesting information:

Upcoming patch has some incremental improvements with respect to damage feedback and health status. It's easy for these sorts of effects to slip into annoying/distracting territory, especially in a competitive game, so we'll keep tweaking until we find the best balance.

On one hand, everyone wants a nice polished experience, but at the current state, Valorant is maybe too polished. On the other, you don’t want your whole screen glowing red when low on health in a (soon to be) competitive title. Time will tell how Riot will balance between the two. There’s already a good place to get ideas from in that regard and that’s CS:GO.

Replays

On a side note in another thread, a different Riot employee answered the month old question of whether Valorant will have replays. The short answer is “No”:

G'day friend, just wanted to correct this: we won't have Replays at launch (sorry!). Definitely going to be there at some point soon tm, and not 7 years past launch like League! We see the same use cases etc that y'all do and we're excited to see what the community will do with it... once it comes out

That’s a “no” at launch, but they’ll definitely be trying to bring them up as soon as possible. Replays will be an essential part of Valorant as thanks to them players will be able to take a more detailed look at how a match plays out. They can be a learning experience for people of any skill level and it’ll be in Riot’s best interest to not delay the feature as long as in LoL.Stay tuned for more Valorant news.
