The Valorant Champions Tour Stage 2 Masters Reykjavik was the biggest event we've seen in the Valorant scene in 2021. Here are five things that left a lasting impression on us!
Valorant was released in 2020, which was quite unfortunate for the title as the global pandemic was in full swing. Countries were under lockdown, international travel was a no-go and LAN events simply didn't exist. Now, it's 2021, and things are different. Restrictions are easing up and international play in the Valorant competitive scene is finally a thing, starting with the Stage 2 Masters Reykjavik. Here are our thoughts on it.
5. LAN Events Are the Way To Go
There were plenty of Valorant tournaments in 2020 and 2021, but none were as big and hyped as the Stage 2 Masters Reykjavik. Why? Well, they were online and Reykjavik was the first time we actually saw teams play internationally. In every other event, there's one team that dominates the region (not always). Stage 2 Masters Reykjavik's average number of viewers was almost 500k and peaked at over 1 million. That's not something we can say for any other event before it. The stats speak for themselves.
4. South Korea Is in the Top 3
One of the most pleasant surprises during the Reykjavik event was South Korea. NUTURN Gaming managed to make it to the winners finals after defeating Sharks Esports and Version1. Their run in the upper bracket came to an end after they faced Sentinels and their lower bracket dreams of a comeback were shattered by Fnatic. Despite that, the team proved they're not to be underestimated. Keep an eye out for South Korea in future events!

3. Even the Pros Make Mistakes
Playing online games can often get frustrating. Many players think that the pros are flawless in every decision they make but during the Stage 2 Masters Reykjavik, we saw a bright example of the exact opposite. Team Liquid's Dom "soulcas" Sulcas underestimated Anthony "vanity" Malaspina which led to a funny situation.
It's certainly a moment we won't be forgetting soon.
2. North America Is the Strongest Region
Sentinels were the favorites to win the Stage 2 Masters Reykjavik and the team lived up to expectations proving that North America is currently at the top of the world in Valorant. The grand finals finished with a 3:0 in favor of Sentinels as Fnatic failed to win even a single map.
Fnatic represented Europe to the best to their ability, but it wasn't enough to beat the NA giants.
1. Expectations Will Be High for Stage 3 in Berlin
Reykjavik gave us the first taste of international play in Valorant, but there's more on the way. The next Masters event will be taking place in Berlin this September and this time, fans have a good idea of what to expect.
