Riot is adding more and more pretty skins to Valorant, but it's always better to enjoy them with your friends. See how you can do it!
Over the past month, Riot has provided us with Zedd skins, Recon bundle, and as many as three skin lines from the new Act. All of these weapon skins are beautiful, making us no longer want to play with weapons from older collections. It would be nice to give them to someone... but wait, can you gift skins in Valorant? Let's find that out!
- Ever wondered if Valorant skins can give you an advantage? We know the answer: Are Valorant Skins Pay-To-Win?
Can You Gift Skins In Valorant?
So, as of now, you can't gift skins in Valorant, but this feature is coming! In a Game Dev Q&A from last year, Miles Metzger from Riot Games stated that:
Gifting will be coming to VALORANT (soon™)! We want to give players the ability to gift content as a way of celebrating victories, holidays, or any occasion that calls for it. We're aiming to enable gifting by the end of 2020, but timelines may shift as we get closer to the date.
It's September 2021, and we still don't have this feature, but who knows; maybe we'll get it in the next Valorant Episode? Riot generally waits for some major updates with such changes, so it's possible, but that would mean late 2021/early 2022.
Okay, but what if you still want to make your Valorant friend a gift? So, this is where Riot Prepaid Cards come in handy! These are gift cards with a set amount of money that you add to your Riot account. You shouldn't have any trouble finding them in various online and local stores; at this point, they're pretty much almost everywhere, even in smaller station kiosks. Moreover, don't be concerned if the card says "League of Legends" or "Teamfight Tactics" instead of your favorite shooter; these Prepaid Cards work for all games made by Riot!
- Psst, we do Riot Prepaid Cards giveaways every so often, so make sure to follow us on Twitter and join our Discord community to make sure you don't miss it.
Can You Trade Skins In Valorant?
You can't trade skins in Valorant, but unlike skin gifting, this feature will probably never come to the game. Quoting Jon Lee (Revenue Lead of Valorant) from Riot Games:
I think skin trading works in other game economies when the only method of acquiring content is through loot boxes. Drop rates and loot box supply can be tuned by the developer, which then impacts the supply and demand of the product. For us, we primarily support a direct purchase store model, meaning if you see something you want, we want you to be able to consider the product and purchase it as a known quantity: no randomness, no considerations for after-market speculation.
So, no skin trading, and probably no skin selling ever in Valorant. Well, with the way Valorant market policy currently is, it makes sense. If you could buy any third-person skin for real money, Riot could lose a lot on it, and we have to remember that this is a free-to-play game, and it's not easy to make money on those. Think about it, why would Riot cut off a massive source of income for Valorant?
