Why Are Valorant Pistol Rounds Important?

Pistol Rounds often set up your team for a massive advantage in the third and fourth rounds of a match. If you win a Pistol Round, then you have a large credit advantage. You can then buy the best weapons in the 3rd and 4th round, leading to a greater chance of a snowball victory. These are often called bonus rounds which simply mean an easy win because you outgun your enemy. The higher up the Valorant ladder you go, the more you will see the importance of winning Pistol Rounds.

What Pistol Do I Buy in the Pistol Round?

Like all things in life, it comes down to personal preference or what sidearm/pistol you are the best with. Here is a list of pistols, and the pros and cons of each weapon to help you decide how you should be using it. But if we had to answer quickly: pick the Ghost!

The Classic

A classic choice you cant go wrong with (Credit: Riot Games)

Pros:

It’s free! Seriously, that is worth something given the lack of credits at the start of a match.

Cons:

  • Cannot get a one-tap headshot and there is no time for a second shot
  • Only effective at mid-range/close-range and Valorant is a game of peeking at long ranges.

So, if you suck with all pistols, use the classic because it is free! It turns out that sucking with pistols is not that uncommon because everyone is used to playing with automatic weapons and no one practices pistols.

The Shorty

Pros:

  • Good for camping corners at close range.

Cons:

  • Only good in closed combat.
  • Terrible at even mid-range and useless for long-range.

Use the Shorty if you are confident that defending a corner and surprising your enemy will lead to a kill.

The Frenzy

Pros:

  • The only rapid-fire weapon in Pistol Rounds and therefore, good for spraying.
  • Great in close combat and wins most close-range exchanges.
  • It has a low price!

Cons:

  • All the disadvantages of the Classic, so pretty bad at long range.
  • Over spray and you will have no more ammo for the rest of your Pistol Round.

The Ghost

Arguably the best option in the Pistol Round (Credit: Riot Games)

Pros:

  • Good accuracy at long range.
  • Can headshot unarmored Agents.
  • Big Clip size, so shoot away.

Cons:

  • Terrible at shooting multiple quick shots.
  • Requires more skill since it has poor second shot accuracy.

In general, do not spray and pray with any pistol and this is especially true for the Ghost.

The Sheriff

Pros:

  • No damage drop off, so at any range, it can kill the target in one shot.
  • Even Kills at 2-3 body shots.

Cons:

  • The Fire rate is so slow, a second shot is nearly impossible in any kind of open exchange
  • The Sheriff takes really long to settle, meaning, the second shot accuracy is complete trash.
  • Most expensive gun in the Pistol Round and hard to use correctly.

So, What weapon will you choose Agent? If you are still unsure, then we suggest going with the Ghost. It is easier to headshot with it than with the Sheriff, making the Ghost the most popular gun in the Pistol Round. A strong second choice would be the Frenzy, but keep in mind you need to engage at close range to use it successfully.
