Valorant Rank Distribution in Episode 3

Valorant's patch 3.00 introduced a lot of changes into Riot's shooter, including to the ranked system. Players got to experience a hard rank reset, but what really changed after it? Here's the ranked distribution for Episode 3 Act 1.

Valorant's ranked system doesn't have a lot of fans, and for good reason. At the start of 2021, Riot removed 5-stacks from Valorant and got some harsh criticism for it. Pro players and streamers all agree that the game at the highest ranks simply isn't an enjoyable experience. After months of feedback, Riot finally decided to do the ranked system justice with patch 3.00. Did it fix it all? Today, we'll take a look at the ranked distribution and how it changed.

Valorant Patch 3.00 Ranked Changes

In addition to the new agent KAY/O and the various price adjustments, Valorant's patch 3.00 also did a hard reset of the ranked system. What did this mean? Everyone had to play a couple of placement matches to get their new rank in Valorant after Patch 3.00. In addition, the highest placement rank was adjusted from Platinum 3 to Diamond 1.

For Episode 3, our major focus for Ranked is matchmaking accuracy and fairness. We’ve evaluated our system and have made a few significant changes that should improve these key areas across a wide range of players.

Ranked Distribution Before and After Patch 3.00

Here's a quick comparison between the ranks. At the end of Episode 2 Act 3 they were distributed as follows:

  • Iron: 17.8%
  • Bronze: 29.2%
  • Silver: 26.6%
  • Gold: 15.8%
  • Platinum: 6.5%
  • Diamond: 2.9%
  • Immortal: 1.2%
  • Radiant: 0.1%

Once patch 3.00 was released, players had to play some placement matches and get their new rank. According to Valking.gg, the current distribution in Episode 3 Act 1 is as follows.

  • Iron: 13.9%
  • Bronze: 28.0%
  • Silver: 35.3%
  • Gold: 13.0%
  • Platinum: 5.9%
  • Diamond: 3.2%
  • Immortal: 0.6%
  • Radiant: 0.1%

As expected, there's a decrease in Platinum and a bump in Diamond due to the new placement system. Immortal players are down to 0.6% from 1.2%, while Radiant remains at 0.1%. The biggest difference seems to be at the Silver rank, where we see an almost 10% increase. With 35.3% of players in Silver, over a third of the player base is in a single ranked group. Is that good for the long-term health of the game?
