Valorant Stage 2 Masters Reykjavik
Date, Format, and Prize pool - UPDATE
Stage 2 Masters Reykjavik will kick off on May 24 and conclude on May 30. The prize pool for Stage 2 Masters Reykjavik sits at a total of $600.000 which makes it the Valorant event with the biggest cash prize we've seen so far. In terms of format, we won't be seeing a group stage. Instead, teams will jump directly into a double-elimination bracket. The top-seeded teams from NA and Europe were placed directly into the second round of the upper bracket. The rest were randomized with the requirement that teams from the same region could not be put on the same side. The opening series for the tournament will be:
- Fnatic vs. KRÜ Esports - May 24 - winner will face Sentinels in the quarterfinals
- Version1 vs. Crazy Raccoon - May 24 - winner will face Team Liquid in the quarterfinals
All series in the event will be Bo3 except the grand finals which will offer a Bo5. Let's just hope the first Valorant LAN event for 2021 doesn't get canceled. What we also know is the points distribution depending on placement:
- 1st - 400 points
- 2nd - 350 points
- 3rd - 300 points
- 4th - 250 points
- 5th-6th - 200 points
- 7th-8th - 175 points
- 9th-10th - 150 points
The top 11 teams with the most circuit points will get a guaranteed invite at Valorant Champions 2021.
The Teams
Only the best teams from the Challengers Finals made it to the Masters 2 Reykjavik and the full list is as follows:
- Sentinels - NA
- Version1 - NA
- Team Liquid - EMEA
- Fnatic - EMEA
- NUTURN Gaming - KR
- Team Vikings - BR
- Sharks Esports - BR
- KRÜ Esports - LATAM
- Crazy Raccoon - JP
- X10 Esports - SEA
Over a year after the closed beta, North America is still considered the most competitive region so expectations will be high for Sentinels and Version1. Then again we've already seen NA teams underperform on the international stage before. Team Liquid andFnatic are also under the radar as some of the biggest esports organizations not only in Valorant but in esports as a whole. Me personally, I love an underdog story.
A live stream will be available on the official Valorant Twitch channel.
