The time is almost upon us! What time, you ask? The time to brush up on our Lok’tar Ogars and grab some enormous axes! But it doesn’t take an Arcane Brilliance buff to know that Warcraft III: Reforged is coming and it brings a lot of goodies with it!

It was during the now distant 2018 BlizzCon when Activision/Blizzard announced the release of Warcraft III: Reforged. This installment is the remastered version of Blizzard’s iconic 2003 game Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos and its expansion, The Frozen Throne. The announcement was a silver lining to an otherwise troubled BlizzCon. The enthusiasm around Diablo: Immortal was lackluster at best and let’s not forget the scandal with Activision/Blizzard axing Heroes of the Storm’s esports future with no prior notice to anyone. But we got World of Warcraft: Classic and Warcraft III: Reforged, and the hype for both was well up!

The game becomes available on January 28, 2020. However, if you pre-purchase the Spoils of War Edition before that date, you are rewarded with some epic lootz not just in-game, but throughout all Blizzard titles. This means we have time to do a little virtual unboxing of all pre-purchase bonuses, game by game.

Warcraft III: Reforged

As the proud owner of Spoils of War, you may ride in battle in Reforged’s multiplayer with four beautiful exclusive skins: Champion of the Horde Thrall, Daughter of the Seas Proudmoore, Fallen King Arthas and Emerald Nightmare Cenarius. They are all highly detailed and quite in line with Reforged’s new aesthetics.

World of Warcraft

If you thought WoW didn’t have enough mounts, you thought WRONG! There can never be enough mounts! Or battle pets! Or transmogrification sets! At least that’s what every WoW collector junkie will tell you. If you get the Spoils of War Edition, there is another great mount in for you: the Scourge Meat Wagon, an instrument of death and transportation!

Overwatch

You can now spray... I mean, spread the love with some lovely minion animated sprays from Warcraft III: Reforged. These include the Night Elf Archer and the Human Footman attack animations. Pretty neat and colorful!

Hearthstone

This one is for the card back collectors. Hearthstone has a proud tradition of beautiful card back designs, and this Reforged Third War exclusive is not an exception.

Heroes of the Storm

No special skins for that one, unfortunately, but the Spoils of War can save you a nice amount of in-game gold: you get four heroes for free: Thrall, Jaina, Anub’arak and Tyrande. The meta in HotS is not what it used to be, but all four are great picks for any game!

Diablo III

For the two hundred or so people who still play Diablo III out there, you are not forgotten! Warcraft III: Reforged’s Spoils of War gives you the Mal’Ganis pet. This way you can have a demon with your Demon hunter while you slay... demons, I guess? Don’t think about it too much.

StarCraft II and StarCraft: Remastered

If you’re into both remastered nostalgia and blasting it through the stars, you can do so in style. With Spoils of War, you’ll be able to outfit your console with some new skins. You can show your allegiance in SC2 with the Alliance, Horde, Sentinels, and Scourge console skins. Even StarCraft: Remastered gets a little something with the Spoils of War console skin.

Now, you may ask yourself, is Spoils of War worth it? Compared to the Standard edition of Warcraft III: Reforged, it costs €10 more (€39.99 vs €29.99). To answer this question, ask yourself whether paying €29.99 is worth it for a remastered game in the first place. Keep in mind, Blizzardhas demonstrated an exceptionally well done job in polishing the graphics and giving the good ol’ RTS a fresh, modern look:

However, Blizzard promises that this beauty won’t be just skin-deep. With the beta already underway, the devs are tirelessly rolling out small balancing patches and fixes. This bodes well for the title’s possible esports endeavors. Should they succeed in achieving a good balance between all races, we might see some great Reforged competitive plays!

Did we tug on your nostalgic heartstrings? If so, hurry up and get all your Warcraft III: Reforged goodies now! Which race will you be playing?
