Microsoft has graced us with some official specifications on its upcoming console Xbox Series X and damn, we are looking at something rather powerful. Boasting 12 teraflops, the Series X is beating out some high-spec graphics cards.
With the latest console war raging between PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X, Microsoft finally decided to give us more to want. The company revealed the official console specification list and it's shaping up to be something rather spectacular. In a blog post entitled: "What You Can Expect From the Next Generation of Gaming", Head of Xbox Phil Spencer detailed all the upcoming changes for the latest console. The notable takeaway here is that Xbox Series X will include 12 teraflops of GPU performance, twice the amount that Xbox One X had and over eight times more powerful than Xbox One.
Some of the big changes
- SSD Storage: "Next-generation SSD" which is touted to improve every aspect of the game, including loading times.
- Quick Resume: The new Quick Resume feature lets you continue multiple games from a suspended state almost instantly, returning you to where you were and what you were doing without waiting through long loading screens.
- Dynamic Latency Input (DLI): Optimizes latency and makes controls even more precise and responsive. (we like that one)
- HDMI 2.1 Innovation: Xbox has partnered up with the HDMI forum and various TV manufacturers to enable the best gaming experience, enhanced screen refresh rates and much more.
- 120 fps support: Xbox Series X will now allow 120fps gameplay, giving developers the freedom to create something truly great.
That's not all, folks
Spencer stated in his post that the upcoming console will greatly improve loading speeds for original legacy games. We assume that the backwards compatibility will reach Xbox 360 and upwards. If this is true, it would be huge for the backward-compatible market and previous generation console owners.
"The benefits of the next console generation extend in every direction, bringing greater visual fidelity and improved loading speeds to your existing gaming legacy, in addition to new games. We’re continuing our commitment to compatibility with Xbox Series X and investing in technology that makes game ownership easier across generations" - Phil Spencer, Head of Xbox
A Tweet by CD Projekt Redseems to confirm this, as owners of Cyberpunk 2077 on the previous generation Xbox One will receive a free copy of the game for Xbox Series X when available. Microsoft also chimed in with a string of Tweets discussing the new features.
