Mysterious hatches are dotted around Caldera, thirteen to be exact. In this article, we're going to show you how to locate every single one.
If you're confused about the Warzone hatches everyone's been talking about, go back and rewatch the official cinematic trailer for Caldera. Butcher explains how he came to the island of Caldera. His plane crash-lands, and as he wonders the beaches, he finds a hatch. As he opens the hatch and starts to climb down, he says the following:
"The Nazis thought they could keep their secrets buried, but I was rarely far behind. I knew one thing for certain, the world would never be ready for what I found"
Don't worry if you forgot about this part of the Warzone story, I think most of us did in the excitement of a new map. But the hatches opened when Season 2 launched. Currently, they just reveal single loot rooms, but we expect them to open up even further and create routes underneath the island. These are effectively going to be Caldera's bunkers.
Hold up, you might be saying, let's start with the basics: where are the hatches on Caldera? And, how do you open them?
Warzone Hatches Becomes Fast Travel Entrances In Season 3
In Warzone Season 3's mid-season update (May 25, 2022) the underground hatches were opened even further, and they revealed a series of mining carts that can allow players to fast travel all over Caldera. We would have appreciated these while Godzilla and King Kong were tearing the surface up, but never mind.
Here is how the different fast travel locations connect to each other:
All Opened Warzone Hatches
In Season 2, some of the Caldera hatched were opened (hatches 2, 3, 5, 8, 10, 12, 14), they are circled in yellow beneath. An audio recording of Morse code begins playing whenever someone enters one of these hatches, you can find the decoded messages beneath.
2. Docks Hatch
For this one, it's best to keep someone posted up in the building opposite the hatch. If you do that, you should be fine.
- Morse code message heard in Docks hatch: “Facility is able deliver 5000 gallons of N5 gas daily.”
3. Runway Hatch
The Runway hatch is very difficult to find based on the yellow circle on the map, you can see its exact location beneath.
- Morse code message heard in Runway hatch: “Reconstruction spotted battleship 22 miles off the north coast.”
5. Mines Hatch
Unquestionably the safest hatch on the map, no one would come to this location unless they were heading for the hatch, honestly.
- Morse code message heard in Mines hatch: “Requesting repairs at phosphate mines conveyor track.”
8. Lagoon Hatch
When approaching the Lagoon hatch, it's usually better to be watching people from the Airfield who failed to take a plane. They usually start heading this way after they've looted south Airfield.
- Morse code message heard in Lagoon hatch: “Alert all planes on lookout for barrage balloons. Fire on sight.”
10. Fields Hatch
It's Fields. Of course, it's hot as hell, but to the victor go the spoils.
- Morse code message heard in Fields hatch: “Compound-5 stable in chem bomb tests. Beginning distribution.”
12. Power Plant Hatch
This is behind a waterfall, don't be confused. You just need to use classic video game logic and walk through the waterfall to the cave on the other side.
- Morse code message heard in Power Plant hatch: “Prototype bombs are in transit, confirm delivery.”
14. Resort Hatch
This hatch is by the clock tower opposite Resort. It's not too exposed, but a buy-station can sometimes spawn in the nearby carpark.
- Morse code message heard in Resort hatch: “Chemical leak detected in hatch 4. Send team to deploy decon stations.”
Unopened Hatches
The following hatches have not been opened yet, but note their location, we expect them to open soon.
Beachhead Hatch
This is one of the safest to access, our advice is just to watch for the big building just north of the hatch.
Arsenal Hatch
Arsenal is a known hot-drop, so you have to be extra careful if you're trying to get to this one. Our advice is to approach from the wilderness side.
Ruins Hatch
Ruins is one of the safest areas period, so there's very little threat here.
Peak Hatch
Peak is basically a multiplayer map for the thirstiest teams, it's great fun, though. This hatch is located in the cave you can jump down in the center of Peak.
North Airfield Hatch
This is usually fine to get to, the only threat are teams moving out of Airfield.
Central Runway Hatch
This is a quite one, and one of the best to head to first because you can start the match in quite a dominant position with some height over fields.
Sub Pen Hatch
Sub Pen is always hot so do be careful at this one, luckily it's in the nearby trenches, so it's not as bad as it could be but stay frosty.
What Inside The Warzone Hatches?
The Warzone hatches contain at least one orange box, a few blue boxes, and NPCs who can be killed for Nebula ammo, Nebula bombs, and Personal Decontamination Stations. The hatch rooms all have doors at the back which are currently closed, but these hatches will almost certain be opened up further. You can see a hatch being explored beneath:
