We've already seen some of the new modes coming to Modern Warfare 2 via the CoD Next showcase, and we're pretty hype with the direction they're going in. It's certainly good news for SnD fans, with a couple of new modes that will follow the same no-respawn, round-based structure. So, let's check them out.

All Game Modes In Modern Warfare 2

New MW2 Game Modes

Knock Out (6v6)

Both teams fight over a bag of Cash located in the middle of the map. No respawns. Team revives are enabled. Run over the Cash to grab it. The team that holds the bag at the end of the round or that eliminates the entire enemy team wins the round. The first team to take five rounds wins the match.

Prisoner Rescue (6v6)

Locate the hostages and get them out alive or prevent their extraction at all costs. No respawns. Team revives are enabled. The Attackers must find two hostages and carry them either out or protect at the extraction point – each hostage is worth 100 points. Defenders must prevent their extraction at all costs and hold them together in their spawn area until the round’s timer expires – each hostage not carried nor captured by the attackers are worth 50 points. The first team to earn 500 points wins the match.

Raids (3v3) – December 14

Raids are a brand-new type of mode coming to Modern Warfare 2 with the release of Season 1 Reloaded. The first Raid will be called Atomgrad and be available as a Special Ops playlist. To start a Raid, players first need to get a Raid Assignment by completing a certain challenge in multiplayer, Warzone 2.0. Spec Ops or DMZ. After completion of the Raid you will be awarded a new Operator skin and unlock a higher difficulty.

Ground War Invasion (20v20)

A massive chaotic battle with a mix of players and AI fighting alongside each other. Utilize vehicles, Killstreak crates, and armored agents to gain the advantage over your opponent. The first team to reach 2,000 points wins the match.

Returning MW2 Game Modes

Of course, there are not only new modes, but also a lot of old CoD classics. Which modes are returning this year?

Free-for-All

Eliminate everyone. The first player to reach 30 eliminations ends the match, with the top three performers claiming victory.

Team Deathmatch (6v6)

Call of Duty in its purest form. Use teamwork to eliminate enemy players and reach the score limit. The first team to obtain 75 eliminations wins the match.

Domination (6v6)

Compete for control of three zones marked by flags — A, B, and C. Captured zones accrue points over the course of one round. The first team to reach 200 points wins the match.

Hardpoint (6v6)

Capture the Hardpoint and hold it against attack. The Hardpoint location rotates every minute, with the position of the next Hardpoint being indicated in the last 10 seconds of the previous zone. The first team to earn 250 points wins the match.

Headquarters (6v6)

Work to capture the Headquarters, then dig in and defend. Respawns are disabled for the team that holds the HQ. Once the HQ is taken offline, a new zone is designated for the next one. The first team to earn 200 points wins the match.

Control (6v6)

Take turns attacking and defending two objectives. Each team shares a pool of 30 lives. If the attacking team successfully takes out one objective, they will gain more time to complete the second. The defending team can win the round by letting the time run out before the objectives are taken. Either team can additionally win by eliminating all 30 lives of the other team. The first team to win three rounds wins the match.

Search & Destroy (6v6)

Teams take turns defending and destroying an objective. No respawning. Attackers win a round by eliminating all defenders before or after the bomb is planted, or successfully planting a bomb and having it explode. Defenders win a round by eliminating all attackers before the bomb is planted, by not allowing the bomb to be planted within the round’s time limit, or by defusing the bomb once it is planted. The first team to take six rounds wins the match.

Ground War (32v32)

Two teams, each composed of 32 players, square off to capture an odd number of objectives on a large map. This is a supersized version of Domination, including vehicles for epic brawls. The first team to earn 250 points wins the match.

Tier 1

In addition to the game modes mentioned above, there will also be a Hardcore mode again that is now called Tier 1. In this mode, players have less health, limited HUD elements, and friendly fire is enabled.

Future MW2 Game Modes

These modes are only rumors so far, but we wouldn't be surprised if they are actually coming with future patches.

Reinforce

This mode is a mix of S&D and Domination, where you fight for three flags on the map. If you die, you're out and can't respawn until your team captures a new flag. The team that simultaneously holds all three flags or has eliminated the entire enemy team wins.

Drop Zone

In this mode teams fight over a moving hardpoint. The more players of a team are in the zone, the more points per second are earned. At certain intervals, care packages with killstreaks are dropped as a reward.

Gun Game

This is a free for all mode and you change weapons after each kill. The first player to make a kill with each weapon ends and wins the match.

Infected

All players start as Survivors, after a short countdown one player is selected as the first Infected. If a Survivor is killed by an Infected, he also turns into an Infected. The game ends when all Survivors have been infected or at least one Survivor has survived the round timer.

Uplink

In Uplink we try to get a drone into the uplink station of the opposing team. If you throw the drone into the station you get one point, if the player makes it in with the drone you get two points. Think CoD basketball, it only really existed in jetpack games, but we've heard its coming.

Cranked

Cranked is a kind of team deathmatch where you get a number of bonuses to movement speed, ADS speed and reload speed after a kill. These bonuses last for 30 seconds, but are refreshed with each subsequent kill. Kills without the cranked bonus give one point, kills with cranked mode give two each.

Cyber Attack

In this mode, both teams have a data center that they must protect while simultaneously trying to place an EMP device in the opposing team's data center. There are no respawns and it basically works like Search & Destroy, except that both teams are always attackers and defenders at the same time.

Team Defender

A kind of capture the flag, where a player must try to hold on to the flag as long as possible while his team defends him. The team holding the flag gets double points for each kill.

Grind

This mode works like Kill Confirmed, but players must first deliver the collected dog tags to a specific objective to score points for their team. Whoever dies drops all the collected dog tags, which can be collected by other players.

These are all the game modes that are currently available in Modern Warfare 2 or will be in the future. Are your favorite modes included? What do you like to play the most?
