It had to happen at one point in time, and it seems like this point is now. Mobile games are the biggest and fastest growing sector of the gaming industry, so this news shouldn't surprise any of us. CoD Mobile Now Bigger Than Classic Call of Duty Titles
According to Activision Blizzard's Second Quarter 2023 Financial Results, CoD Mobile has brought in more than $3 billion USD in revenue for the company since its launch. An impressive number, since the game has been on the market for just 4 years at this point.
Call of Duty Mobile engagement and net bookings were stable year-over-year, with the team continuing to see a positive response to enhancements to the player experience and optimization of live operations. Lifetime worldwide consumer spending on Call of Duty Mobile since its October 2019 launch passed $3 billion in the second quarter.
This revenue stream was made possible by an ever-growing handheld gaming community, which made "over half of all engagement" in CoD Titles. According to Activision more than 90 million monthly players are out there.
Call of Duty approaches its 20-year anniversary in October with around 90 million monthly players, with over half of all engagement on the mobile platform. Activision’s teams are hard at work on major new installments in the franchise slated for the fourth quarter.
These numbers are very likely to grow further in the future, since more and more people are being used to mobile gaming.
Now, in the last six months alone CoD: Mobile has really spiked, making a whopping $1.9 billion in net revenue. In the same time period PC revenue was "just" $1.25 billion and console revenue was even lower at $1.19 billion. Of course, there wasn't a new Call of Duty game in the last six months. And it's fair to say that console will almost certainly bring in the largest revenue in the second half of the year because October/November sales will be included. But this is still impressive for CoD: Mobile.
The game gets continuously updated and promoted, for example with the implementation of Stars like Snoop Dogg as playable character skins. Also, multiple seasons per year and special events are keeping players involved in the game.

The player numbers might further increase with the release of Warzone Mobile, the mobile version of the popular CoD Battle Royal Game, Warzone. A full release of Warzone Mobile is planed for 2023. But no exact date was named so far. Of course, we will keep you up-to-date.
Call of Duty: Warzone Mobile™, an ambitious, internally developed mobile game tightly integrated with the PC and console experience, continues to progress through regional testing.
And while player numbers on PC and consoles are slowly shrinking, the mobile versions will be Activision Blizzard's draft horse in the foreseeable future. It will be interesting to see how the player numbers will develop and where the developers will put in the big portion of their work and energy.
