Modern Warfare 2, the 2022 Call of Duty game, and Warzone 2, have finally been confirmed. And it looks like it's going to be the best year of CoD in recent memory. We've got new details about the engine for MW2 and Warzone 2 right here.
Probably the most widely beloved Call of Duty game of all time is 2009's Modern Warfare 2. And now, more than a decade later, the remake (kinda) is here. It's technically the sequel to MW 2019, but we all know that it's going to be taking inspiration from the OG MW2. That means remastered maps, returning weapons, and probably very similar campaign locations. Needless to say, we're hyped. And we just got some new details from the publishers about Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone 2, which are both expected to release this year. Activision reached out to content creators and gave them new info regarding the engine for these games on February 10, 2022. Here it is.
Will MW2 2 & Warzone 2 Have FOV Sliders On Console?
Okay, let's cut to the chase, we know why you're here, yes Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone 2 will have FOV sliders on console, but there won't be any FOV slider implemented into the current Warzone before that point. Content creator ModernWarzone explains:
There will NOT be an FOV slider for the current #Warzone. Developers stated that they were not confident last generation consoles could maintain a suitable frame rate with an FOV slider.

It's a shame we won't get an FOV slider before that point, but the reasoning makes sense.
Are MW2 2 & Warzone 2 Built On A New Engine?
Yes, both Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone 2 will be built on a new engine, which by Infinity Ward's naming conventions will therefore be called IW9. The same content creator mentioned above confirmed the engine:
Despite rumors from yesterday, creators were NOT shown the logo for the Modern Warfare II. We also were not given the official name of the game, we were just told it's a sequel to Modern Warfare 2019 built on a new engine from the ground up with Warzone in mind.

A new-engine is fantastic news. Seriously, if this game looks and feels even better than Modern Warfare 2019 did, then we're in for a great year. All we need is for Treyarch to take over map design, a big bump in TTK from MW 2019, and no messing around with the OG mini map. Personally, I'm most curious about the Tarkov-like third mode, but we'll surely find out more by the day now that the game has been officially revealed.
When Will Modern Warfare 2 & Warzone 2 Be Released?
Modern Warfare 2 will be released earlier in the year than most Call of Duty games have been historically, so around early-October. It's releasing earlier than usual because this is one of the very few Call of Duty games that's actually been ahead of schedule. Couple this with the fact that Vanguard had a relatively poor release in terms of sales, and you can see why they want to get going with the Modern Warfare 2 life cycle. Warzone 2 will not come at launch, however, and you should expect to have to wait at least a month after the launch of MW2 for it.
