Deadpool 3, the third installment in the Deadpool film series, is scheduled to be released in theaters on May 3, 2024. The film is directed by Shawn Levy and stars Ryan Reynolds as Wade Wilson / Deadpool. The film is expected to be rated R for violence and language.
Deadpool 3 is an upcoming American superhero film based on the Marvel Comics character of the same name. It is the third installment in the Deadpool film series and the thirty-fourth film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). Here's everything you need to know about it!
Deadpool 3: Everything You Need To Know
The film has been in development since 2016, following the release of the second film. 20th Century Fox acquired the film rights to Deadpool in 2000 and began developing a film adaptation in 2005.
Development of the first film was slow due to creative and rating conflicts, but the film was eventually released in 2016 and was a critical and commercial success, grossing over $783 million worldwide. The second film, Deadpool 2, was released in 2018 and was also a success, grossing over $780 million worldwide.
In 2017, 20th Century Fox was acquired by Disney, which also owns Marvel Studios. This raised questions about the future of the Deadpool franchise, as Disney is known for its family-friendly content, while Deadpool is known for its adult content. However, Disney confirmed in 2019 that Deadpool 3 was still in development and would retain its adult tone.

Release Date: When Is Deadpool 3 Coming Out?
Deadpool 3 was originally scheduled to be released in theaters on September 6, 2023. However, the film was later delayed to November 8, 2023. The film has now been delayed again, and is now scheduled to be released on May 3, 2024.
Unfortunately, we aren't currently sure if Deadpool 3 will actually come out in May 2024, as not even the movie's director Shawn Levy is certain that the movie will be finished in time for the current set release date.
According to an interview with TheWrap from October 16, 2023, Shawn Levy stated that "[...]we’ve shot half the movie. I’ve edited half the movie".
The reason that the production of Deadpool 3 is taking so long is because of the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike, which could lead to an even further delay of the movie's release, even according to Shawn Levy.
Certainly, the actors’ strike and the long pause in production have put that release date in true risk.
There hasn't been any official confirmation that the movie's release date will be pushed back even further, so let's just keep our fingers crossed that it won't happen. Nonetheless, it's likely that it could be delayed even further, depending on how long the SAG-AFTRA strike goes on for.
If we hear any news regarding a new release date, we'll make sure to update you!
