A sequel to the 2019 film Detective Pikachu has now been confirmed. We assume it will be called Detective Pikachu 2, and we know it will be directed by Jonathan Krisel.
2019's Detective Pikachu had a fairly mediocre reception among critics and viewers (53% on Metacritic and 6.5/10 on IMDB), but it did gross $434 million worldwide against a production budget of $150 million. Which proves once again that brands as big as Pikachu / Pokémon are too big to fail.
It should come as no surprise therefore that Detective Pikachu 2 is real and already in production. Although, the video game Detective Pikachu 2 will probably be out far sooner.

Jonathan Krisel also co-created Baskets, so you might know him from that. While Chris Galletta is probably be best known for writing the screenplay to Kings of Summer.
We will keep you updated as soon as we hear any further announcements or rumors concerning Detective Pikachu 2. Until then, why not check out a couple of other recently announced video game adaptions? We have an overview of the Need for Speed movie, and some casting revelations for the upcoming CoD movie.
