James Cameron claims he's already working on a new Terminator movie. But fans need to wait a while, because he wants it to be inspired by real events.
James Cameron reveals he's working on a new Terminator movie that will focus more on AI. Apparently he already started writing but wants to see how real-world events turn out, before finishing the script.
The Terminator franchise paints a looming dystopian future where AI has taken over and machines control everything. Throughout the story, we see the relentless and iconic Terminator, a.k.a. T-800, stalk our protagonists trying to end their bloodline. That's not us trying to sound edgy, the terminator is literally trying to prevent the future leader of the rebellion from being born, by killing his parents in the past.
Yep, it's a time-travel story with all the paradoxical plot points that entails. Pulling the strings in the background is an AI called Skynet, which is dead set on wiping out humanity.
With how big of a topic AI is at the moment, it's no wonder that James Cameron is interested in how things will turn out in the real world, before finishing the story for his newest Terminator movie.
James Cameron Reveals Plans For Future Terminator Movie
James Cameron is one of the most highly acclaimed filmmakers of all time, producing record-breaking movies such as “Titanic” and “Avatar”.
During the Dell Technologies World 2023 conference in Las Vegas, the 68-year-old voiced his plans for continuing the Terminator franchise, explaining how he already“started writing a new Terminator movie 3 months ago but wants to see how AI shakes out before he goes any further”

Kinda terrifying that we're living in a time, where James Cameron wants to see how things turn out, to inspire his dystopian sci-fi world… But, hey, at least we can have ChatGPT write funny prompts for us, right?
Although we can not expect the return of Arnold Schwarzenegger for this new movie, Cameron was planning to take the franchise into a new direction anyway, focussing more on the AI side of things.
He detailed his intentions on the SmartLess podcast, all the way back in December 2022, saying:
If I were to do another Terminator film and maybe try to launch that franchise again, which is in discussion, but nothing has been decided, I would make it much more about the AI side of it than bad robots gone crazy
So yeah, hopefully we will still get some T-800 action going on, but depending on when we can expect the movie to release, it could make for a way more interesting plot like this.
