The Oscars 2022 are nearly upon us, bringing all the ponce and glory of the film industry into full light. Who will win, and what?
The 94th Academy Awards are due to begin next week, bringing with them all the ponce and grandeur you would expect from the film industry. This past year of movies may have flown a little under-the-radar, with the Covid-19 pandemic still raging across the globe, but a few truly impressive films did get released that deserve recognition for what they managed to achieve.
Now, you have to remember that not everything will be considered in this year's Oscars, considering that the cut-off for qualification was a little while ago at this point. This means that we can't be expecting to see The Batman winning any accolades, though it certainly deserves to next year, but we can expect the likes of Dune, The Power of the Dog, and Belfast.
In this article, we are going to give you a breakdown of everything you need to know about The Oscars in 2022. That means answering questions like "When is it?" and "How do I watch it?", but also giving you all the nominations and then updating them with the winners once the show is live.
Key Oscars 2022 Details
The Oscars is going to be an in-person ceremony this year, hosted by Amy Schumer, Regina Hall and Wanda Sykes. It is the 94th Academy Awards and will be held at the Dolby Theatre at Ovation Hollywood. Only films officially released in the year 2021, will be considered for awards.
When is The Oscars 2022?
The Oscars 2022, or the 9th Academy Awards, will be held on March 27, at 8PM ET, 5PM PT, or in Europe, 1AM on March 28 CEST. This year's show has been shortened, with controversy surrounding the decision to not broadcast eight of the awards live on air, but instead pre-tape then an hour before the telecast starts.
How Can I Watch The Oscars 2022?
In the US, The Oscars are being broadcast live on ABC, however this is different depending on the country you live in. In the UK, you can watch on Sky, in Canada on CTV, and in the land down under, you can watch it on Channel 7. Alternatively, we're sure that there will be a multitude of live-streams online. Best Picture: CODA
CODA managed to take home Best Picture at The Oscars 2022. This coming-of-age comedy-drama is an adaptation of classic French film La Famille Bélier. Starring Emilia Jones as the only person in her family who can hear, it's a touching and beautiful exploration of family, the struggles of aspiration, and the responsibilities of being adulthood.

Best Director: Jane Campion, The Power of the Dog
Jane Campion, director of The Power of the Dog, took home the Best Director trophy on Sunday night. This Benedict Cumberbatch cowboy movie has received insane accolades since it released on Netflix and in theaters last year. Based on a 1967 novel, the film follows a rancher who responds in a distasteful way when his brother brings home a new wife.

Best Actor: Will Smith, King Richard
Despite the incredibly embarrassing display between Chris Rock and Will Smith, the latter still managed to pull in an impressive "Best Actor" reward for his work in King Richard. The film sees Smith's Richard Williams attempting to write his daughters into the history books. It's a great flick, and he deserves the accolade, it's just a shame that it was overshadowed by his earlier display.

Best Actress: Jessica Chastain, The Eyes of Tammy Faye
Whilst our eyes were admittedly on Olivia Coleman, there's no doubt that Jessica Chastain deserves Best Actress for her performance in The Eyes of Tammy Faye. This period-drama set in the 1970s, Tammy Faye rises from a humble middle-class existence to running a religious broadcasting network and theme park. It's heady stuff, but incredibly entertaining.

Best Supporting Actor: Troy Kotsur, CODA
Also winning Best Picture, CODA is a must-see 2021 film. That comes, in part, due to Kotsur's incredible performance as Frank Rossi, a deaf fisherman from Gloucester who is the patriarch of the film's focal-point family. For his incredible performance he has picked up a Best Supporting Actor accolade at The Oscars, and he certainly deserves it.

Best Supporting Actress: Ariana DeBose, West Side Story
Ariana DeBose became the first openly queer woman of color to win an Acting Oscar, when she took home the Best Supporting Actress accolade at The Oscars 2022. DeBose played Anita in West Side Story, a Puerto Rican immigrant and the girlfriend of Bernardo. We won't spoil anymore, though, just go and watch the movie.

Best Adapted Screenplay: CODA, Siân Heder
Well, CODA also brought home the Best Adapted Screenplay award at The Oscars 2022. It has been an impressive string of wins for the film, which not only received Best Picture and Best Adapted Screenplay, but saw Troy Kotsur take home the Best Supporting Actor accolade.

We were right about this one, and we're very happy. Ladies and gentlemen, Kenneth Branagh's masterpiece, Belfast, won Best Original Screenplay at The Oscars 2022. This semi-autobiographical film follows a working class family as they struggle through the turmoil of the late 1960s in North Ireland. It's incredibly disturbing, but remarkably acted and features a gorgeous soundtrack from Van Morrison.

Best Cinematography: Dune, Greig Fraser
The rolling expanses of Dune took home Best Cinematography this year, and no one was surprised. It was kind of a home-run for this film, with the giant deserts and that sexy-as-fork sand worm, what else could we have wanted? Jokes aside, Dune is a sci-fi epic adapted from the 1965 novel by Frank Herbet of the same name. It covered the first half of the book, and featured Timotheé Chalamet in the lead role.

Best Original Score: Dune, Hans Zimmer
Stealing the show from Encanto and Belfast, Dune also took home Best Original Score with its blasting, epic set of new Hans Zimmer classics. It was a bit of a surprise to see Dune take home this win, especially with so many incredible scores this year, but we in the office widely agree that this was some of Hans Zimmer's best work... well, pretty much ever!
