With the multiverse open in the MCU now, many have theorized that Tom Holland's Spider-Man might appear in Across the Spider-Verse. In the new trailer we got a little tease that definitely connects the two universes.

Already, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is promising to be a fun and emotional ride like the first movie . One big thing a lot of us were speculating about, was if Tom Holland's Spider-Man would make an appearance. Of course, there are a lot of legal things surrounding him, with Disney owning the MCU and Sony controlling the Spider-Verse. While we did not get a glimpse of MCU Spidey in the trailer, there was a specific mention of him.

Beware: Spoilers for Spider-Man: No Way Home incoming!

MCU And Spider-Verse Are Connected

When Miles is talking to the Spider Collectives leader Spider-Man 2099, the latter says the following:

And don't even get me started on Doctor Strange and the little nerd back on Earth-199999.

I can see all the heads snapping to attention at the mention of Doctor Strange. But didn't the MCU state in Multiverse of Madness that it is the universe 616? For those that aren't versed in the labeling of the comic universes, let me explain why these numbers matter.

Every universe gets its one nickname to differentiate it in the multiverse. So the main comic line is Earth-616. Most comics take place in it or are connected to it. As a result, other universes have names like Earth-2099 or Earth-1610.

Now, the name for the movies has been a topic of debate for a while, especially with the opening of the multiverse in it. In 2008 an official handbook stated the MCU to be Earth-199999. So no matter how much it posters, the movies are not set in the iconic 616 universe.

Another thing worth mentioning is how 2099 refers to MCU Spider-Man. At the end of No Way Home Peter made everyone forget his name, and noticeably he is not referred to by name in the trailer. Does that mean the spell had some effect on the Spider-Verse?

For now, we have to wait for the movie to come out, but the chances are definitely higher now that Tom Holland might be in the movie with his Spider-Man.
