Spider-Man 2 is coming. It's time to swing around New York City again as Peter Parker and Miles Morales with the upcoming sequel to Insomniac Games' hit game. Here's everything we know about Spider-Man 2, including the release date, the latest news, leaks and more.
Get ready for another exclusive game on the PlayStation 5. It has been announced at the PlayStation Showcase 2021 that Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is coming to the PS5. After the huge critical and commercial success of the first game, Insomniac Games is going back to New York City to continue their version of the friendly neighborhood spider.
What else do we know about this upcoming game? Here we will show you everything we know so far about Spider-Man 2: the release date, details on the story, news, leaks and more.
Spider-Man 2 Release Date
It won't be long until we can venture through New-York city once again with our boys and leave our sticky webs everywhere. Ever since the game was announced back in 2021, people were waiting for quite a while to finally find out when Spider-Man 2 will be released for the PlayStation 5, but we finally have some clarity.
Insomniac Games announced that Spider-Man 2 will be released on October 20, 2023.
Spider-Man 2 Story: Fighting Venom with Miles Morales
Remember fighting against the Sinister Six in Spider-Man? The parade of villains was one of the highlights from the first game.
The story included a lot of familiar faces from the Spider-Man franchise, and the sequel will bring at least one more major win into the mix: Venom will be one of the villains in Spider-Man 2. Spider-Man 2 is supposed to be darker than its predecessor, and including Venom only makes sense there.
That’s right, Peter Parker and Miles Morales will face off against Venom in Spider-Man 2. Both guys will feature in the game as Spider-Men. After having his own spin-off, Miles will now feature in the next major Spider-Man game. But what other enemies will they encounter?
Thanks to the "Story Trailer" that was uploaded on the PlayStation YouTube account, we got a glimpse of some enemies that we can expect to see. As fans had previously speculated, Peter and Miles will have to face off against Kraven the Hunter.
Kraven's not the only one that's made his way to New-York City, though. Harry Osborn is back, and it seems like either he or his father Norman will be slipping into the role of the Green Goblin.
Insomniac has already teased that we'll also be facing foes that have not yet appeared in this Spider-Man universe, so we can only wait to see who else we'll be facing once the game releases.
What Harry Osborn's Return Means
Anyone who played the original Spider-Man knows that Peter Parker and Harry Osborn haven’t seen each other for years. Norman Osborn claimed that Harry left for Europe after being cured of his unknown illness. But we would learn towards the end of Spider-Man that Harry Osborn remains encased in his stasis chamber, meaning his mysterious condition was never solved.
What’s interesting about Harry Osborn is that the Venom symbiote kept him alive within the stasis chamber. I’m speculating that when Harry Osborn awoke during Spider-Man: Miles Morales , he became the Hobgoblin and separated from the symbiote.
As we've already seen from previous Spider-Man 2 trailers, that seems to be exactly what Insomniac Games had planned. We already know that Spider-Man 2 will be darker than the previous game, and the story trailer has already teased that Peter will come in contact with the Symbiote goo, leading him to a darker path.
The build-up from the previous two games has allowed Insomniac to have the perfect introduction for Venom.
Spider-Man 2 Platforms: Will There Be a PS4 Version?
Unfortunately, we won’t be able to download Spider-Man 2 onto our PS4. The sequel has been announced as an exclusive for the PlayStation 5. Guess I’m upgrading. Here’s hoping that PlayStation will announce a bundled version of the PS5 with Spider-Man 2. That would make things more convenient for anyone that hasn’t upgraded.
Spider-Man 2: System Requirements & PC Version
PlayStation has promised they’ll be releasing more of their exclusive titles onto the PC, so you can expect that Spider-Man 2 will be made available onto the PC at some point. However, a PC version hasn't been announced yet. That means we don't have any info on system requirements or PC features yet. But we expect a PC port to come further down the line.
Spider-Man 2 Co-Op: Can We Play With Friends?
Unfortunately, unlike we had hoped, Spider-Man 2 will not feature a co-op mode. Although we know that we can play as both Miles and Peter, which would have been the perfect opportunity to allow us to play in co-op, Insomniac Games has announced that this will not be the case.
Instead, we'll be able to switch between both Spider-Men while playing and can unlock a bunch a new gadgets and suits for both of them. Some quests will require you to play as either Peter or Miles, so you'll definitely get the best of both worlds.
After the release of Spider-Man: Remastered for PC, data miners had taken a closer look at the game and found some interesting things inside it. Inside the code, there are multiple references towards co-op gameplay and modes, featuring both Peter Parker and Miles Morales.
This could either mean that Insomniac Games might introduce co-op features to Spider-Man 2 later down the line, or that we might get a separate Spider-Man co-op game with Miles and Peter at some point. Maybe something like "Miles and Peter's Great Adventure!". Or, you know, something snazzier than that.
Of course, this remains as speculation, though.
Spider-Man 2 News & Leaks
Sony has shown in their newest update about Spider-Man 2, "Expanded Marvel's New York", what other crazy things have happened to Marvel's New York since we last saw it!
The New-York map we had in the previous game has now been expanded to almost double its size, to add Brooklyn and Queens into the game! We'll now be able to explore many new areas including Peter's old stomping grounds, Midtown High, and Miles' current place to be, Brooklyn Visions Academy.
That's obviously not all, though. A new mechanic is being introduced known as the Web-Wings (which basically looks like a wing suit). You can use this mechanic together with your webs to stay up in the air for longer and glide from one mission to the next.
Insomniac Games has placed emphasis on players being able to enjoy exploring all available areas of New York. Because of that, they're also introducing new visual cue for missions and main storyline quests, such as Kraven's Talon Drones, or mysterious symbols in the sky, which will indicate a new quest for you to take on.
Thanks to Miles and Peter's new AI-lenses, they'll be able to take a glimpse around the city to see which missions they've already discovered, if you want to take on a mission later on, or they can use the lenses to help locate new missions.
The Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man App has also been upgraded, so it should be easy to track areas of interest throughout the game, as well as send new quests your way, whenever someone needs your help.
There's so much more to unpack, but I'd recommend checking the trailer yourself:
