We haven't had new leaks about the Lando Calrissian series on Disney+ in the last couple of years. So, is it still happening?
Disney+ had big plans for the Star Wars franchise, with multiple spin-offs centering around iconic characters like Ahsoka Tano and Lando Calrissian.
The announcement for the Lando series happened almost 3 years ago in fact, but since then we've had barely any news. So will the spin-off for one of the franchise's most iconic characters actually happen?
The Lando Calrissian Series On Disney+ | Writer Gives First Update After Years
For those of you who are unfamiliar with the character (which probably won't be many), Lando Calrissian is an iconic character from the original Star Wars trilogy. A smooth-talking smuggler turned hero, he was the original owner of the Millennium Falcon, before losing it to his buddy Han Solo.
Back in 2020, Disney announced they were working on an adaptation of the charismatic outlaw, and that Donald Glover was cast to play Lando Calrissian.
Honestly, that's just perfect casting and a story about how Lando got his hands on the Millenium Falcon would be awesome! But sadly, we had no new for years! Until April 2023 that is, when the Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy told fans that “it's still happening”.
Still, there's awfully little information for a show that has been announced back in 2020 and in a recent interview with The Direct, Lando writer Justin Simien offered an explanation for this.
I certainly poured my heart and spent a lot of time working with them to put together a really great show. It feels like everybody loves it. And, you know, I was told we had to put a pause on it because of scheduling, and the next update I got, some years ago. So I don't know, I have no idea what's going on with it.
So yeah, apparently the show was put on hold and even the main writer for the series “has no idea what's going on with it”.
As Kathleen Kennedy emphasized, though, the show is coming, but maybe they just have other priorities, like the Ahsoka Tano series and another season of The Mandalorian.
If you're a big Star Wars fan and a gamer, this will probably get you hyped:
