With the departure of the biggest The Witcher fanboy, Henry Cavill, it's now up to Liam Hemsworth to step up as Geralt of Rivia in The Witcher season 4. Many felt Cavill's genuine affection for the series made his portrayal stand out, so Liam is trying his best to carry on that spirit, immersing himself in the source material to ensure he doesn't disappoint.
Netflix's interpretation of The Witcher narrative had already ruffled some fan feathers, and with the exit of Cavill — a beloved figure for many — fans will probably be more critical than ever. Liam Hemsworth will most likely have a rough start as he assumes the role, but it's worth remembering the initial skepticism Henry Cavill faced when first announced as Geralt. If Hemsworth truly invests himself, there's a good chance he might deliver an equally memorable rendition of our brooding monster hunter. From the looks of it, he's certainly putting in the effort!
Liam Hemsworth Reads The Source Material In Preparation
Step one in Hemsworth's journey to becoming Geralt of Rivia is reading the source material by Andrzej Sapkowski and working out like crazy. Joey Batey, who plays Jaskier (Dandelion) in the show, shared this info with IGN.
I don't think any of us are in the position to advise on playing Geralt, but he's throwing himself into it. His training regime is insane, and he's been devouring the books.
If you're interested in that as well, I've got you covered: here are the books .
It seems Liam might be onto something with that, and we can only hope he gives the advice of reading the books to the showrunners. If Henry Cavill didn't get through to them, perhaps Thor's brother will.
Knowing who Geralt originally was isn't the only thing Hemsworth needs to get down before taking the torch from Cavill. His co-star Batey also shared that Liam Hemsworth is on an "insane training regime" in order to beef up and match Cavill's physique.
That's not only good news for Jaskier in terms of thirsting after a new Geralt, but also for the fans. It seems Hemsworth is committed to giving Geralt the treatment he deserves, just like Henry Cavill did.
The showrunners are in good spirits regarding the change. Apparently, they have a "very good plan" to justify where Cavill's jawline went when Hemsworth enters the screens. The source material actually offers a few ways on how the different looks could be explained.
The only thing to do right now though is to enjoy The Witcher's Season 3, give Henry Cavill a good send-off and pray.
