In The Witcher's Season 4 we'll have to say goodbye to Henry Cavill as Geralt of Rivia. Producers promise the change won't be weird and there are good reasons, consistent with the lore in the books, for having Liam Hemsworth take over.
Henry Cavill as Geralt of Rivia in Netflix's adaptation of The Witcher is arguably one of the best parts of the show. So, seeing him take his leave after Season 3 feels like the end of an era. Cavill was always very outspoken about his passion for the franchise – that showed on screen as well.
The actor change is basically inevitable. It's either getting a different actor or ending the show, so Liam Hemsworth taking over as the new Geralt of Rivia secures fans at least a fourth season of Netflix's show, maybe even more.
The producers Steve Gaub and Tomek Baginski don't seem to be as worried about the upcoming change as the fans are. In an interview with Yahoo UK they tried to ease the concerns about Season 4.
Liam Hemsworth Will Be The Next Geralt of Rivia
The Hunger Games star Liam Hemsworth is confirmed to take over after Cavill leaves the show. The producers are quite fond of Cavill and his portrayal of The Witcher, emphasizing how important it was to them to have him leave on a high note.
Making sure Cavill's last episodes to be strong ones to give him a proper send-off, they also seem excited to introduce the audience to Hemsworth's Geralt in Season 4.
We're going to be in great hands with Liam. We're looking forward to the new explorations of Geralt with a new person behind it, a new actor and a new face. [...] We have a very, very good plan to introduce our new Geralt and our new vision for Geralt with Liam.
The New Geralt of Rivia Will Be Introduced As The Books Intended
It seems the producers won't throw Hemsworth into Season 4 and have no one acknowledge how Geralt's facial structure seems to have changed. So, we'll get no scene of Jaskier asking where Geralt's jawline is – small blessings and all that, am I right?
Gaub and Baginski seem confident in their plan of introducing a new Geralt. Apparently the vision they have of introducing the new face goes hand in hand with the lore, so Hemsworth's entrance is supposed to be book-accurate (book five, to be exact) and make sense in the narrative.
It's very close to what was set out in the books and I think this change will be quite flawless.
While we're excited to see how Liam Hemsworth does in Season 4, we're even more pumped to have Henry Cavill slay monsters in Season 3 right now.
