Netflix has started filming The Witcher season 3. If you're curious about the release date, the cast and other news, here is everything you need to know about the next season following our favorite monster hunter Geralt of Rivia.
Video game adaptions normally have a bad reputation among movie- and gaming-fans, so it was kind of surprising that The Witcher has come out as such a success on Netflix.
The second season ended more than a year ago, and fans are already hyped for the continuation of Geralt's adventures. With filming for season 3 having wrapped up in September 2022, here's what you can expect.
The Witcher Season 3: Release Date
Netflix has officially revealed the release date for The Witcher season 3, and it's actually closer than expected. The season will be split into two parts, with Volume 1 coming out on June 29 & Volume 2 on July 27.
Netflix did the same for Stranger Things season 4, so maybe we will have to deal with more two part releases in the future.
The release date was first revealed, when the trailer for season 3 dropped on June 8, showing Henry Cavill in action, making his departure from the show even more depressing.

The Witcher Season 3: How The Story Could Continue
Since we have the books the story is based on, we can pretty much already tell what will happen in season 3 of The Witcher.
To further confirm the plot, the official Twitter account of the series posted a plot summary. With this, they also revealed the main location, where this season will take place. If they stay true to the books, which seems likely, Ciry will be training her sorcery at the protected Fortress of Aretuza.
The Witcher: Cast For Season 3
For the cast, we know that most of the main cast of the last two seasons will make their return. Don't worry, Henry Cavill will not leave us all too soon, he is a geek to the bone, and born to bring the white wolf to your screens. Freya Allan (Ciry) and Anya Chalotra (Yennefer) will also be making their return.
We might get a recast though. Redanian Intelligence posted an article, where they showed pictures from set. It seems that Sam Woolf will replace Chris Fulton as the fire mage Rience, who is a major antagonist of season 2.
From the on-set pictures, it looks like Rience will play a major role in the new season again, so I'm curious as to why they would recast him.
We might just also get a new The Witcher game, which would be pretty awesome if you ask me:
Joining them, we will also see a bunch of new characters and new roles, which got revealed through the official The Witcher Twitter account. It seems they really like to post stuff on their Twitter.
Welcome to the Continent! We're thrilled to introduce our new cast of royals, warriors, and outlaws making their debut in #TheWitcher Season 3. pic.twitter.com/WKsmt2dK1u

This tells us quite a bit about the plot as well, knowing which character will be showing up. I am pretty excited about the additions and can't wait to see what roles they will play in the story.
The Origins Of The Witcher On Netflix
The Witcher series originated from a series of fantasy novels written by Polish author Andrzej Sapkowski. The first book, "The Last Wish," was published in 1993, introducing the world of Geralt of Rivia, a monster hunter known as a Witcher.
The success of the books led to the creation of a video game franchise by CD Projekt Red, starting with "The Witcher" in 2007. The game series gained international acclaim for its immersive storytelling, morally ambiguous choices, and richly detailed open world.
It was further popularized by the release of "The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt" in 2015, becoming a critically acclaimed and commercially successful title, leading to its adaptation as a Netflix TV series.
