One reason for the success of Spider-Man: No Way Home was the return of Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield. Now in an official interview one of them has made his stance on future movies very clear.
Everyone has their favorite Spider-Man often depending on one's age or first experience. For the 90's generation, Tobey Maguire is most certainly their version of the character and the cheers were heard all over the world when he returned to the role after so many years.
In Spider-Man: No Way Home we got to see all cinematic versions of Peter Parker on one screen. The overwhelming success of the movie really proved that we just can't get enough of their dynamic.
Sadly no fourth MCU Spidey movie has been confirmed, though rumors are rampant. With the opening of the multiverse, is there a possibility for Tobey to reprise his role once again? The actor certainly seems open to it!
Tobey Maguire Wants Another Spider-Man Movie
On Febraury 28, the Spider-Man No Way Home: The Official Movie Special book will release. In it, you can find a deep dive into the making of the movie and interviews with the different actors.
One of the interviews is with Tobey Maguire, and he has really strong words about his appearance in the movie. Apparently he was very happy when they called him and immediately jumped on board.
Even sweeter are his comments on future appearances for his Spider-Man:
I love these films and I love all of the different series. If these guys called me and said, “Would you show up tonight to hang out and goof around?” or “Would you show up to do this movie or read a scene or do a Spider-Man thing?”, it would be a “yes!” Because why wouldn’t I want to do that?
So all Marvel has to do is call him and whoosh... he's there! At least that's what I hear in these words.
Possibilities For Tobey's Return
So we know Tobey is open to an invitation, but could he return? That seems to be the real question. After all at the end of the last Spider-Man movie his Peter Parker returned to his own universe. Well this is where the current status of the MCU comes into play.
After having watched season 1 of Loki and Multiverse of Madness, to our knowledge the multiverse has opened up. Which means multiple versions of characters could exist at the same time, as the world is not restricted to just one version of events.
In theory, this means nothing would speak against both Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield coming back in another movie from a lore perspective.
Of course, there are legal things to consider with the ownership of Spider-Man with Sony and Disney. But the huge success of No Way Home speaks for itself and if the companies can not see the demand we fans have for more, then they are truly blind.
