Alan Wake 2 has some hefty PC system requirements and the community is already worried if their systems will be able to run it. Let's take a look at the Alan Wake 2 system requirements and why players are already in shock.
Alan Wake 2 will release soon, to be exact on October 27, 2023. 13 years have passed since the release of the first game, and the community is hyped to jump back into the horrors of protagonist and writer Alan Wake. However, it seems part of the players is already scared before they even started playing. Why, you ask? Well, because of Alan Wake 2's PC system requirements.
After Remedy Entertainment revealed the official system requirements, the community is stunned about how performance-hungry the new game is. So if you are thinking about pre-ordering Alan Wake 2, maybe take a look at the system requirement first. It seems like a lot of PC players have to upgrade their rig to experience Alan Wake 2...
Alan Wake 2 PC System Requirements
Remedy Entertainment revealed some pretty hefty system requirements for Alan Wake 2. So here is a breakdown of the hardware you need to play Alan Wake 2:
You can see all the PC system requirements in the image above, but we will break down the recommended specs for you here:
Recommended without Ray Tracing | Recommended with Ray Tracing | |
GPU | GeForce RTX 3060 / Radeon RX 6700 XT | GeForce RTX 4070 |
VRAM | 8 GB | 12 GB |
CPU | Ryzen 7 3700X / i7 10700 | Ryzen 7 3700X / i7 10700 |
RAM | 16 GB | 16 GB |
Storage | 90 GB SSD | 90 GB SSD |
Yes, you read that right, to be able to play Alan Wake 2 with Ray Tracing on medium settings you need to have at least a GeForce RTX 4070. If you want to experience the game in its full glory, you even need a 4080, which is one of the best and most expensive graphics cards on the marked right now. No wonder that players are concerned.
Not only PC players are mad that they might have to upgrade their actually high-end PCs, but also console players are scared the game might not be optimized to run smoothly – after all, even a PS5 or Xbox Series X can't keep up with a high-end gaming PC.
This looks like console players are going to have a terrible time. I kinda want to refund it now and wait for performance reviews

The big question now is, are the PC system requirements that high, because the game just looks that amazing, or are they that high because the game isn't properly optimized? After all, Alan Wake 2 would not be the first game in 2023 that needed a lot of optimizing after release.
Do you remember the days when games were properly optimized for the majority of PCs and not putting top 1% builds into minimum settings? pic.twitter.com/4TqqF0uAb8

Let's just hope Alan Wake 2 won't be another big disappointment on PC and is actually playable on release. I personally am really looking forward to it, since I loved playing the first game and really want to know what Remedy has in store for us this time.
