Alan Wake 2 just released, but the devs are already talking about DLCs? Yes, please! The creative director Sam Lake has revealed that the game will be getting multiple DLCs, and some of them will be free for all Alan Wake 2 players!
Alan Wake 2 was released on October 27, 2023, and Remedy Entertainment are already planning the release of multiple post-launch DLCs.
Some of the DLC titles have already been revealed thanks to the Deluxe Edition of Alan Wake 2. The Deluxe Edition features an expansion pass that will include two expansions: "Night Springs Expansion" and the "Lake House Expansion".
And, even more excitingly, Alan Wake 2's creative director Sam Lake recently revealed that those won't be the only expansions that Alan Wake 2 will receive.
Alan Wake 2: Free DLC Planned For Post-Release
Sam Lake announced at EGX that Alan Wake 2 will also be getting free DLC updates in addition to paid expansions that will be "pretty significant", whatever that exactly means.

So we can at least confirm that Alan Wake 2 is getting two paid DLCs (the ones that mentioned in the Deluxe Edition) and at least a few free DLCs, as Lake mentioned at EGX. How many there will be, or when they will come out, is unclear at this point in time.
It's possible that the timeline for Alan Wake 2's DLCs will be similar to that of the first game, Alan Wake . The game was released in May 2010 and the two DLCs "The Signal" and "The Writer" were released in July and October 2010.
Seeing as Lake is already openly talking about the DLCs prior to the release of the game, it could mean that the developers have planned a similar release structure, meaning that the DLCs for Alan Wake 2 could come out in the next few months.
As of now, the two known DLCs for Alan Wake 2 are set to release in 2024. If you're interested, we've found some more information about what the two DLCs will entail.
Night Springs
According to the official Alan Wake website, this is what the Night Springs expansion is going to add to the game:
Visions and dreams. Fiction is written and coming true. Fiction collapses and remains just words on a page. These are those stories… in Night Springs.
In the Night Springs DLC, we'll be able to play as several familiar characters from the world of Alan Wake. We'll experience the unexplainable in multiple self-contained episodes of Night Springs, a fictional TV show set in the world of Alan Wake.
The Lake House
While Night Springs will show us a fictional TV show, The Lake House will bring back Saga Anderson and Alan Wake together once again:
The Lake House is a mysterious facility situated on the shores of Cauldron Lake set up by an independent government organization to conduct secret research… until something goes wrong.
In this DLC, we'll get to explore the Lake House and embark on two separate adventures as the realities of Saga Anderson and Alan Wake collide again.
According to IGN, these two DLCs are set to release in 2024, with Night Springs releasing first in Spring 2024.
Sam Lake previously said that more details about the DLCs will likely be revealed soon after the release of Alan Wake 2, so we'll probably just have to wait a while longer to find out more about Night Springs, The Lake House, and the planned free DLCs!
