The next Assassin's Creed project in development is a stealth-focused title that will be set in 9th Century Iraq. Hype.
Did you play Assassin's Creed Valhalla? Well, if not, there was a character in that game who was deeply mysterious, but never really took center stage. It seems that the DLC Ubisoft had planned for this character is going to become its own game. It'll be a stealth-focused game set in 9th Century Iraq, and it sounds awesome.

Assassin's Creed Baghdad
As reported by Bloomberg, a new release will come out ahead of Assassin's Creed Infinite, based on the character Basim's backstory. Basim is an assassin we meet in AC Valhalla that comes from Baghdad, and we'll be getting a look at his home environment soon. As Jason Schreier reports:
The game, code-named Rift, was originally planned as an expansion for 2020’s Assassin’s Creed Valhalla but morphed into a full game late last year, said the people, speaking anonymously because they weren’t authorized to talk to the media. It will star Basim, a popular assassin character from Valhalla, and will be smaller in scope than recent games in the series, the people said. The game won’t be a massive open-world role-playing game like previous recent entries, focusing instead more on stealth gameplay.
We'll see how the return to stealth turns out, but we have high hopes. It was, after all, how the franchise began. And the RPG mechanics they introduced later weren't unanimously praised. And using Iraq as a location sounds like a fantastic choice, it should feel like a direct sequel to the original Assassin's Creed, which was set in neighboring Syria.
When Will Assassin's Creed Baghdad Be Released?
Assassin's Creed Baghdad, or whatever it will be called, will release later in 2022 or early 2023. We sadly don't have an exact release date for you yet. But if that's just too long to wait, maybe the new Horizon game can help pass the time?
