Ubisoft Admits Assassin's Creed's Modern-Day Story Sucks

Assassin's Creed will make some changes: Say good-bye to the modern-day storyline.

I love this. Ubisoft just found the perfect way to politely admit - and not admit - that Assassin's Creed modern-day story is a waste of time. You know, during the first AC, the whole 'jumping back and forth between modern day and the past' was kind of cute, but after that... it became a nuisance. We wanted to jump off of high buildings, and assassinate people, not play a barebones science/walking-simulator. Ever since then, fans have made their opinion known, but Ubisoft wouldn't listen... until now.

Assassin's Creed Will No Longer Have Modern-Day Story

Well, to be quite exact, the modern-day storyline will not entirely cease to exist - it will just no longer be told in Assassin's Creed games. Instead, Ubisoft's new cornerstone will now hold the candle of dissapointment: Assassin's Creed Infinity will now take over the modern-day storytelling duties, but that's not as straight-forward as it seems, because... AC Infinity is not really a game...

Ubisoft revealed that Assassin's Creed Infinity will serve as the hub platform for the series, and that's about all we know about it. Ubisoft is deliberately being vague when describing the upcoming service, but from the sounds of it, AC Infinity is an interactive, glorified game-shop, from which you can enter/buy all future AC releases. Meanwhile, the modern-day storyline will exclusively be told within said hub. In other words: You stick around the hub to get your modern-day kicks, and then jump into any Assassin's Creed game for an exclusive assassin experience.

From the sounds of it, AC Infinity will be the modern-day world we all know and loathe, and you can simply roam around and choose to jump into whichever portal you choose to enter the assassin-experience of your choice.

People who love just immersing themselves in the past will be able to jump right in there and never be interrupted or need to know who Desmond and Layla is. The way we tell the story will evolve with time. But the abstraction that we want people to have is [Infinity] is your Animus. It is your DNA Explorer on your desktop. You are the main story character.

In detail, Ubisoft is calling this Period 3 of the AC experience, after Valhalla was the end of Period 2. Sounds exciting, and with Assassin's Creed Codename Red, Hexe, Mirage and Jade all lined up... Period 3 is almost ready to go.
