Baldur's Gate 3: The Game With 17,000 Endings

That Baldur's Gate 3 offers multiple endings depending on the choices within your playthrough is nothing surprising. But now, it seems like every little thing might influence your game's ending as well, causing a ridiculous number of endings.

Baldur's Gate is currently on everyone's lips, at least since the controversial trailer featuring a romance scene between a character and a druid in his animal form. Now the game has once again caused a stir with the ridiculously high number of possible endings.

17,000 Possible Endings for Baldur's Gate 3

Baldur's Gate 3 wasn't even released in his final form yet, but has already sparked some controversies and rumors in the gaming community. Now, another rumor about the amount of possible endings for the game is doing the rounds.

These rumors were ignited by a video from the YouTube channel Fextralife. According to the video, Fextralife talked to Chrystal Ding, Writer for Baldur's Gate and Developer Larian Studios, about the possible endings in the Game.

And something that was really interesting is I spent some time talking to Chrystal, who is one of the lead writers on the project, she's predominantly working on the endings of the game. And she's been working on that for six months[...] And I asked her how many variations of the ending are there? And she told me that there were 17,000 variations of the ending.

It's safe to say that we're not talking about 17,000 different endings with cutscenes and everything else here. But maybe there will be an end-game description where your actions and decisions throughout the game come up again, and they will influence the wording of a cutscene.

Either way, this huge number obviously became the talk of the time and was discussed everywhere. Larian Studios Director of Publishing, Michael Douse, reacted to it on Twitter:

So maybe the number has some truth to it, or his comment was meant in a sarcastic way. For many people it will be nice to hear that their in-game decisions and actions will have an effect on the game, the world and characters and even on the ending of Baldur's Gate 3. Only the future will show how exactly that will be the case though.

Outside of the endings, Baldur's Gate 4 apparently features over one hundred hours of cutscenes, a fully fleshed out romance and relationship system (yes even with bears) and a huge open world to travel and discover. All in all, it's one of the most anticipated RPG's in recent history.

Baldur's Gate 3, developed and published by Larian Studios, is set to be released on August 3,2023, for PlayStation 5, Mac OS and Windows PC.
