Baldur's Gate 3 is a massive success for Larian Studios and also one of the most popular Steam games at the moment. The crowd is going wild, and the game reached yet another peak.
Baldur's Gate 3 officially launched on PC and the PlayStation 5 owners need to wait a little while longer, until the launch on September 6. But the game nevertheless skyrocketed themselves on the Steam charts among the most played games, keeping the position of second-best launched title in 2023, surpassing expectations and causing some download hiccups along the way.
The game was reasonably popular in early access, but its full release has seen the ambitious RPG absolutely explode in popularity. Let's take a look at the current numbers.
Baldur's Gate 3: All-Time Peak Keeps Rising
At the time of writing (August 14), the concurrent player count has reached a new milestone. While the players-peak on August 4 reached 500,831, Baldur's Gate 3 hit an all-time peak on August 13 of 875,343 players. This set a new record for the game and the studio alike.
The fanbase for the DnD-inspired RPG is getting bigger by the minute, as more and more people get interested in the game that has become incredibly popular. The number of players is growing quickly, and it's very close to beating the record for the biggest Steam launch in 2023, which currently belongs to Hogwarts Legacy.
Baldur's Gate 3 is only 3965 players away from reaching the same peak player count as Hogwarts Legacy. This is a huge achievement, especially considering that Larian Studios isn't owned by a public company and all they've done was self-published.
They have the freedom to take their time and improve the product until it meets their desired quality, even though there's a small sense of uncertainty in being secure, as there is nobody backing them up.
Baldur's Gate 3: Finding Its Way Into Top Three Most Played Games
Right now, the game is doing really, really well, and is just a step behind Counter-Strike: Global Offensive and Dota 2 in terms of current players. Actually, over the past few days, Baldur's Gate 3 and Dota 2 swapped positions, making it tough for the long-living MOBA to hold its position temporarily for the time being.
The phenomenal start is an indication that Baldur's Gate 3 is already a huge hit for Larian Studios, especially when we consider this only displays the Steam player base. We didn't even take the numbers from GOG into account.
Will Baldur's Gate 3 dethrone Hogwarts Legacy with the coming weekend? There is a possibility this just might happen. Until we know more, let's enjoy this masterpiece and have a wonderful journey!
