The setting for the next BioShock seems to have been leaked. Where will we go next?
If you've been merely a casual BioShock player in the past, you might have missed that the next BioShock – rumored to be titled BioShock Isolation – is coming. If you're a hardcore stan, you will know this already. But did you also know that the setting for Isolation seemingly just got leaked? I bet you didn't... otherwise you wouldn't have clicked on this article. Anyway. To the leak!
BioShock 4 Setting
BioShock 4 will take place in the 1960s, in a fictional Antarctic City called Borealis. This information comes from the Sacred Symbols' podcast and the renowned journalist Colin Moriarty.
The story of the next BioShock will be tied with previous BioShock games, so anyone who was worried about the next game feeling out of place: nothing to worry about if this leak turns out to be true.

BioShock 4 has been kept under wraps, probably because they know what BioShock 4 has to live up to, and we all know how much harm showing game content early on, only for it to release and then fans be disappointed in it can do to a game and a company (hi, CDPR). However, over the last couple of months, there have been quite a few details that leaked through about BioShock 4.
Here are only a few details about BioShock 4 that you have to take with pinches of salt, but if true, are amazing:
- Built with Unreal Engine 4 (could switch to UE5, though)
- Built for next-gen consoles, but might release for old-gen too
- FPS combat
- Narrative systems-driven experience
- Dialog system (possibly multiple choice)
- “High ambitions for tying AI and storytelling together”
Given how little info we have on BioShock 4 at the moment, it'll be quite some more time till the game releases, so a switch to the Unreal Engine 5 seems very possible at some point.
For now, we're just happy with the setting, though. BioShock 4 in an Antarctic City is more than fitting.
