Battle.net Games On Steam: Surprising Step From Blizzard

Blizzard games are finally going to be available to buy and play on Steam. This is probably in part due to Microsoft's acquisition of Activision Blizzard, but the exact reason isn't mentioned in the press release.

Blizzard have a great catalog of games (just check out our recent review of Diablo 4) but their launcher is... well, not the very worst, but obviously not as good as Steam. Like all third-party launchers it just feels like one more needless program that's going to slow down your computer.

Thankfully, we've got some great news: You won't need Battle.net to play Blizzard games for much longer!

Blizzard Games Are Coming To Steam, Starting With Overwatch 2

In a recent press release, Blizzard outlined plans to begin slowly releasing their games on to Steam, starting with Overwatch 2 on August 10. It's tempting to assume that this was caused by the Activision-Microsoft merger, but they declined to give any explanation for the change in their announcement:

It’s our goal at Blizzard to listen to players and try to exceed their expectations in everything we do. While Battle.net remains a priority for us now and into the future, we’ve heard players want the choice of Steam for a selection of our games, starting with Overwatch 2 on August 10th. We’re happy to work with Valve to make that happen.

They will continue to support Battle.net for now apparently, but we would expect the vast majority of PC players to begin switching to Steam over the coming years. Sadly, we don't know what Blizzard games will be coming to Steam next, but we will update you as soon as we hear more.

Are you excited to play Blizzard titles on Steam? It would certainly be nice to enjoy Diablo on the "Switch-Killer".

And if you haven't played Diablo yet, you should:
